  • Version 6.2.0.4

Login form. The username box was narrower than the password field beside it; every field now takes the full row. The username and password fields are the same height, and the Remember me box is square again (it was drawn as a leaf shape).

Phone login pop-up. The Log in button was rounded on one side only (its other half belonged to a drop-down arrow that is hidden); both sides now match.

Header search. The search field was wider than its space in the header and ran 57px past it; it now fits.

Phone header. The phone menu script is updated to the current version: opening a phone panel no longer dims the logo and menu buttons, and tapping outside an open panel closes it.

Phone spacing. On phones the content started 45px in (two side paddings stacked) and the home page's welcome heading 65px; they now line up at 20px, and the welcome box runs edge to edge.

Module positions. The template tested its header and footer position pairs with a Joomla 3 expression that Joomla 4 and later read as a single position name, so the test always failed; each position is now checked on its own.

Print view on phones. The print view had no mobile viewport, so on a phone it showed a shrunken desktop page; it now fits the screen.

Error page. An error caused by a missing item no longer prints the server's file paths.

Defaults for a fresh install. The site name / logo now links to the home page and the slideshow is switched on with autoplay (logoLinked, cam_turnOn, cam_autoAdvance, cam_mobileAutoAdvance default to on). Existing sites keep their saved settings.

Quickstart. The search box returned No Results for everything (the search index was empty); it is built. The sample Atomic, Beez 20 and Beez 5 category pages showed broken thumbnails of Joomla 3 templates; the broken images are removed. The Professionals article's picture was missing; it is back. A second, uninstalled copy of a core template folder (cassiopeia_extended) no longer ships.

Shared stylesheet. The template's Bootstrap compatibility stylesheet is updated to the current version used across our templates. Your own template settings are not changed.

Removed. 28 JavaScript and CSS files nothing loads (331 KB), among them Superfish, Modernizr and old Internet Explorer stylesheets; 6 template options nothing read (old drop-down menu effect settings and similar); template code that read settings the template never offered; a reference to a module style the template does not have (login pop-up); stylesheet references to 13 images that do not exist, and links to stylesheets that do not exist.

    Version 6.2.0.3

Login fields on phones. The username and password fields were smaller than 16px on phones, so an iPhone zoomed the page in when one was tapped and did not zoom back out. Login, registration, profile and password-reset fields are now 16px on phones.

    Version 6.2.0.2

Security. The template's menu layouts printed a menu item's note and link exactly as entered, so markup typed into a menu item's Note or Link field reached the page. Both are now escaped, as Joomla's own menu layouts do.

Colours with transparency. A colour chosen with the colour picker's opacity slider (saved as an 8-digit colour such as #rrggbbaa) was replaced with black. Colours with transparency are now used as chosen.

    Version 6.2.0.1

Page language. The page had no opening <html> tag, so browsers, screen readers and search engines were not told the page's language or text direction. It now declares both from the site's language settings.

    Version 6.2.0

Joomla 6.2.0. The Quickstart now installs Joomla 6.2.0 (Joomla 6.2.0 release notes), and the template version is now 6.2.0 to match.

Error pages. "Page not found" and "access denied" pages now show inside the template, with its header, menus and footer, and fit a phone screen.

Quickstart. A fresh install no longer lists stale update notices.

    Version 6.1.4.1

Quickstart fix. The Quickstart no longer fails to install on MySQL hosts with a "prepared statement protocol" error. Thanks to Iryna for reporting this. The template itself is unchanged apart from its version number.

    Version 6.1.4

Joomla 6.1.4. The Quickstart now installs Joomla 6.1.4, a security and bug-fix release (Joomla 6.1.4 release notes), and the template version is now 6.1.4 to match. There are no visual changes. Installing the template update does not update Joomla itself; update Joomla from System → Update → Joomla.

    Version 6.1.3.7

Fix. After the previous security update, print and email views, popup windows and the VirtueMart checkout step (pages served with tmpl=component) could return an error page. The template's component.php now defines the escaping helper it uses. There are no visual changes. Please update if you installed the previous version.

    Version 6.1.3.6

Security update. Module, menu and tab titles are now escaped wherever the template writes them into your pages (module headings, title attributes and the mega menu), so a title containing a quote or markup can no longer break out of its place in the page. There are no visual changes. Recommended for all sites.

    Version 6.1.3.5

Security update. Every template setting that is written into your pages is now escaped for the place it lands in (HTML, attributes, CSS and JavaScript), including the site name and slogan in image alt text, and the error page escapes its message and title too. There are no visual changes. This release supersedes 6.1.3.4, which was online briefly. Recommended for all sites.

    Version 6.1.3.3

Fixed a problem where a large logo could fill the whole screen on phones. The stylesheet that keeps this template working with current Joomla was letting the header logo draw at its own full size on small screens instead of scaling it down to fit the space, so a logo wider than the phone screen — common, since logos are usually exported at 1500 pixels or more to stay sharp — pushed the header out and showed visitors a giant close-up of one or two letters instead of the site. Logos now scale down to fit on every screen size, and a logo already small enough to fit is displayed exactly as before. Update the template to pick this up; if you built your site from the Quick Start, a rebuilt one is on your downloads page.

    Version 6.1.3.2

    Maintenance release.

    • Updated the Bootstrap 2→5 compatibility stylesheet to the current version, bringing this template in line with the rest of the range.

Both the template package and the Quick Start have been rebuilt for this release. Download the latest from your member area.

    Version 6.1.3.1

Maintenance release — recommended for everyone running 6.1.3. The 6.1.3 package shipped with an out-of-date copy of the Bootstrap 2 to Bootstrap 5 compatibility stylesheet, and with that stylesheet loading in the wrong position in the page. Between them, those two problems meant a number of the layout corrections this template is supposed to carry were never reaching your site — including, on this template, the phone menu. Both are fixed here, and twenty-nine further corrections have been added.

    Fixed

    • The phone menu could not be opened. The menu button in the phone header was being drawn with no width or height at all, so there was nothing to tap and nothing happened when you tried. It is now a normal 44-pixel button and the menu drawer opens and closes as intended.
    • The compatibility stylesheet was being overridden by the template's own styling. It was being added to the page before the template's stylesheets instead of after them, so any correction in it that did not explicitly force priority silently lost. It is now emitted last, which is where it has always been meant to go. This is the single most significant change in this release: corrections listed in earlier changelogs were present in the package but were not all taking effect on the page.
    • A large empty dark band appeared in the phone header, between the logo bar and the row of icons beneath it, with nothing inside it. The template reserved a fixed 154-pixel strip for its old phone layout while the content that survives in it measures 84 pixels, so the remainder painted as an empty box. The strip now sizes itself to its contents.
    • On desktop the logo hung below the menu bar and the menu sat on the bar's bottom edge. The header row was being sized by the search column rather than by the bar itself, which pushed both down. The search box still sits where it was designed to sit, but it no longer drags the rest of the header with it — measured at 1400px, the menu text and the bar now share the same midline exactly, and the logo sits fully inside the bar.
    • Breadcrumb links ran off the right-hand edge of interior and account pages at 1024 and 768 pixels. The row containing them was resolving to zero width, so the links had no width to wrap inside and simply continued past the edge — 58 pixels past at 1024 and 66 at 768. The home page was unaffected, which is why this went unnoticed.
    • The header search box pushed the page wider than the screen at tablet widths. The field is set to a fixed 220 pixels, which is deliberate on a wide screen, but the column holding it narrows at tablet sizes and the field kept its full width regardless. It is now capped in those two sizes only, and the intended desktop appearance is unchanged.
    • The close button on the log-in dialog appeared as a solid coloured block sitting on top of the "Login Form" heading rather than as an ×. The dialog's dismiss control had been converted to the Bootstrap 5 style, where the × is supplied by the stylesheet rather than by the button itself — and this template does not load Bootstrap's own stylesheet, so nothing drew it. The glyph is now supplied directly, and the dialog has gained a proper × in its top corner in addition to the Close button at the foot.
    • Article details ran off the side of the page on a phone. Written by, Parent Category, Category, Published, Created, Last Updated and Hits were laid out on a single line that was not allowed to wrap, so the later items simply continued past the edge of the screen. They now wrap onto as many lines as they need.
    • Joomla 6's "Sign in with a passkey" button drew a very large black shape across the log-in page. Joomla 6 draws that button's icon as an inline graphic with no size of its own, and no template in our range was written to expect one, so it expanded to fill whatever space it could find. Inline icons of that kind are now capped to a sensible size and take the button's own colour.
    • Icons in the phone header were invisible. The small round buttons for account, search and social links took their symbol colour from the surrounding header, which on a white button meant white on white — measured on this template as a contrast ratio of exactly 1.00, which is to say nothing was drawn at all. Their colour is now derived from the button's own background.
    • The page could be scrolled sideways at tablet widths even though nothing visible was overflowing. The menu's drop-down panels are parked off-screen vertically, which hides them but does nothing horizontally, so they continued to stretch the page's scrollable width.
    • The slide-out "Follow Us" tab was unusable on touch screens and left a dead bar across the foot of the page. It only ever responded to a mouse hover, and the phone header already offers the same links. It is now hidden on phones.
    • Social icons copied into the phone's social panel could land outside it and appear as an empty panel, and could pick up stray bullet graphics from the template's general list styling.
    • Search fields and other older form fields could collapse to less than their proper height, in some cases cutting off the submit button beside them.
    • Header controls across the top of the page were each sized independently and did not line up with one another. They now share one size and one midline, on both desktop and phone.
    • Assorted further corrections to drop-down and mobile menus, tooltips and popovers, spacing in the phone utility row, and full-height column panels.

    Changed

    • The mobile header and menu are now built by our shared script rather than a per-template copy. The behaviour is the same, but every template in the range now gets the same fixes at the same time.
    • The Close button at the foot of the log-in dialog is now a real button rather than a link, so it behaves correctly for keyboard and screen-reader users.

Requires Joomla 6.1 or newer and PHP 8.3+.

    Version 6.1.3

Energize 6.1.3 is a maintenance release. It renumbers the template to match the Joomla version it is built and tested against, refreshes the Quick Start onto the current Joomla release, and brings the Bootstrap compatibility stylesheet up to the current shared build. There are no changes you need to make after updating — your settings, colours and menu choices carry over.

    Version numbering

    • The template version now matches the Joomla version it ships against. Energize 6.1.3 is the build for Joomla 6.1.3. The previous release of this template was numbered 6.1.2.6. This is a numbering change only — Joomla still treats 6.1.3 as newer than 6.1.2.6, so the update comparison in your Extensions Manager behaves normally, and nothing about how you install or update the template changes. We are applying the same convention across the whole template range so that the number on the download tells you at a glance which Joomla release it was tested against.

    Quick Start

    • The Quick Start package now installs Joomla 6.1.3. The previous Quick Start bundled Joomla 6.1.2. If you are building a new site from the Quick Start you now get the current Joomla release straight away, instead of installing and then immediately having to run a core update.
    • The Quick Start is a standard Joomla installation package — upload it, extract it, and run the normal Joomla installer in your browser. Akeeba Kickstart is not needed.

Bootstrap 2 to Bootstrap 5 compatibility stylesheet

    • Brought up to the current shared build, adding twenty-five further layout guards since 6.1.2.6. These were found and fixed on other templates in our range during August, and are included here as a preventative update so that Energize is protected against the same classes of problem rather than waiting for one of them to surface on your site. The areas covered are: drop-down menu behaviour and flow; mobile header layout, ordering and spacing; slideshow controls on touch screens, which are revealed on hover and so were unreachable by tap; social icon rendering where a template's own image sprite competed with the Font Awesome 6 glyphs that replaced it; tooltips and popovers becoming visible on the page before they were triggered; page bands that pin themselves to a fixed desktop width and so scroll sideways on a phone; grid children that lost their block display; and full-height column panels that clipped the content they were meant to wrap.

What is not in this release

    • No template file other than the Bootstrap compatibility stylesheet changed between 6.1.2.6 and 6.1.3. Everything shipped in the 6.1.2.x line — the Joomla 6 native rebuild, the removal of the JavaScript errors that fired on every page load, the jQuery compatibility layer that keeps the slideshow and parallax bands working, the log-in dialog that now opens fully visible, the mobile overflow and drawer fixes, and the drop-down menu positioning corrections — is carried forward unchanged in this package.
    • Known limitation, unchanged and disclosed: the template still loads jQuery and a number of carried-forward jQuery plug-ins. These are dependencies the template genuinely uses, not dead code, and removing them is a larger piece of work than a maintenance release should carry.

With thanks to Michael Mullan, whose Expression bug report led to the maintenance pass across our templates that several of these compatibility-stylesheet guards came out of.

    Version 6.1.2.6

    • Drop-down menus no longer appear open before you hover them. On some templates every sub-menu was drawn on the page from the moment it loaded. They are hidden again until you move the mouse over the menu.
    • Drop-downs sit directly beneath the menu they open from. They previously appeared a short distance below, and moving the mouse across that space closed the menu before you arrived. Sub-menus that open to the side are likewise flush against the column they come from.

    Version 6.1.2.5

    • Drop-down menus now sit directly beneath the menu they open from. They previously appeared a short distance below, and moving the mouse across that space closed the menu before you arrived. Sub-menus that open to the side are likewise flush against the column they come from.

    Version 6.1.2.4

    • Drop-down menus no longer close before you can reach them. On desktop, moving the mouse from a menu heading down to its drop-down crossed a gap where neither was hovered, so the menu closed on the way down. The whole path is now hoverable. The menu's spacing and appearance are unchanged.

    Version 6.1.2.3

Maintenance release. This update is recommended for all users — it removes JavaScript errors that could stop other features on the page from working, and improves the template's behaviour on phones.

    • Removed leftover calls to jQuery plugins that are no longer bundled. A call to a missing plugin stops every remaining script in the same block from running, so this can affect features that look unrelated.
    • Added a small compatibility layer for three jQuery methods that were removed before the version Joomla 6 ships, so slideshow controls and parallax backgrounds keep working.
    • Updated the Bootstrap 2 to Bootstrap 5 compatibility stylesheet to the current build.
    • The log-in dialog now always opens fully visible. Previously it could open with the page dimmed behind it but the dialog itself invisible.
    • Pages no longer scroll sideways on a phone, and the mobile menu, search and social panels are now sized to the screen rather than to the full page width.

    Version 6.1.2.2

    Maintenance release.

    • Fixed: restored the six layout-correction stylesheet blocks from 6.1.2.1 that were missing from the demo refresh (Bootstrap 5 container padding and row-gutter corrections), and restored the 6.1.2 Favicon tab + crop tool that the 6.1.2.1 package had accidentally dropped — this release is the correct union of both.
    • Removed a phone-layout override that forced the top menu and search to full width, conflicting with the template’s own deliberate phone design.

    Version 6.1.2

Major release — Energize is now genuinely Joomla 6 native. This is by far the largest update Energize has ever had. The template has been rebuilt from Bootstrap 2 onto Bootstrap 5, every Joomla 3-era programming call has been replaced with its modern Joomla 6 equivalent, the phone experience has been built from scratch, the settings screen has been modernised throughout, and a long list of faults — several of which had been quietly broken for years — has been fixed. The quickstart ships Joomla 6.1.2. Everything below ships in both the standalone package and the quickstart, and your existing settings are preserved.

    Added

    • Joomla 6 native foundation. Energize no longer depends on Joomla's Behaviour — Backward Compatibility plugin, so it keeps working when that plugin is switched off — which is Joomla 6's own default. This matters more than it sounds: a template that still relies on that plugin blocks the upgrade rather than merely misbehaving afterwards. Fifty-six obsolete Joomla 3-era calls across seven files were rewritten to reach this point.
    • A real mobile menu. The main menu now opens from a large, easy-to-tap button at the top right of the header and shows your actual menu structure as an accordion — sections with sub-pages expand and collapse with a clear plus/minus control, and opening one section closes the others. Previously the phone menu was a flattened list that rendered sub-pages as dash-prefixed text with no way to collapse anything.
    • A utility row on phones — one evenly spaced row of controls sitting under the logo, holding the section-menu button, account, register, search and follow-us, every target a proper 44×44 pixel touch size.
    • A section-menu button on phones, on every page. Energize's sidebar menu only appears on interior pages, so the button used to come and go. It is now always present: on pages with no sidebar menu the panel is built from your main menu's top level. Consistent controls get learned; controls that appear and disappear read as breakage.
    • A working search on phones. Tapping the magnifier opens a panel anchored beneath the header with a full-width field and a visible search button beside it. Previously the phone search field had no submit control at all — the only way to run a search was to press Enter on the on-screen keyboard, with nothing visible to say so.
    • A Favicon tab with a built-in crop tool. Pick any image and the template builds the complete set of icons every device needs — a real favicon.ico (16, 32 and 48 pixel) published at your site root, plus 32, 192 and 512 pixel versions and a 180 pixel Apple touch icon. If your image isn't square, the crop tool lets you choose which square part becomes the icon. Leave the field empty and the template's own default favicon is used. With thanks to Gianluca, whose favicon question inspired this tool.
    • A modern colour picker on all 55 colour settings, with a live preview, brand swatches and an opacity slider. Values stay as ordinary hex codes, so anything you had set before still works.
    • Modern social networks — Instagram, Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon, YouTube, TikTok, Pinterest and Discord added, alongside X, Facebook, LinkedIn, Vimeo and RSS. Thirteen networks are now available.
    • Font Awesome 6.5.2 with version-4 compatibility shims.
    • Package-based distribution — Energize now installs as a package and registers with Joomla's own Update Manager, so future updates are offered to you in the administrator rather than downloaded by hand.

    Changed

    • Rebuilt on Bootstrap 5 (previously Bootstrap 2), with a compatibility layer that preserves the original Energize design while the underlying framework is fully modern.
    • Social icons are now scalable glyphs rather than a fixed image. The old icons were slices of a single picture file, which is why they looked soft on high-resolution screens and why no new network could ever be added. They are now font glyphs in brand-coloured circles — crisp at any size.
    • Twitter is now X, with the current logo. Your existing Twitter link and its on/off setting carry over untouched.
    • Every on/off switch in the template settings now uses Joomla's native switch control, so the settings screen matches the rest of Joomla 6. The old checkbox-style switches are gone.
    • The settings tabs have been tidied — the repeated "Settings" suffix dropped so the tab strip is shorter and clearer.
    • Google Fonts now load through a direct stylesheet link with preconnect and display=swap, replacing the old JavaScript font loader — text appears sooner.
    • The site search now uses Joomla's Smart Search. Menu links pointing at the old search component were repointed and keep their original labels, so your navigation is unchanged.
    • The header's background-image panels are now handled by the template's own code instead of a jQuery plug-in.

    Fixed

    • The password show/hide button was an empty square on login and registration; its replacement icon is now drawn as a crisp eye with a properly centred pupil. Behind it, a leftover Bootstrap 2 icon sprite had been bleeding through — that has been removed as well.
    • Interior pages: the sidebar menu sat on top of the content with a large empty gap beside it, instead of forming a proper left-hand column next to the article. The two now sit side by side as intended.
    • Interior pages had uneven left and right margins on phones, with content bleeding off the edge. This had been missed because every check had been run against the home page.
    • Footer columns and links were skinny and wrapped mid-word on phones (“Site” / “Map”), and the copyright and bottom menu were not centred. The footer columns now stack full-width and everything is centred.
    • The logo, slogan and menu button were not vertically centred in the green header band on phones. They are now aligned.
    • The version number Joomla showed for Energize was from an old release. The record Joomla reads had never been refreshed, so the administrator reported the wrong version regardless of what you had installed.
    • Five broken images on the sample-data category pages. They pointed at an administrator template that Joomla removed in version 3, so they had returned “not found” on every visit since that upgrade.
    • The Previous / Next / First / Last pagination buttons could render blank on category lists, because Joomla 4 and later use icon names the template never mapped. All four now display correctly.
    • All colour settings appeared as plain text boxes — the colour-picker library the template shipped with had stopped running on modern Joomla. The picker works again.
    • Colour and style changes could take a long time to appear for visitors, because the template's stylesheets carried no version marker and a content delivery network kept serving an old copy. They now update immediately.
    • Template overrides were reviewed and marked as checked, so Joomla stops flagging them after core updates.

    Removed

    • Joomla's long-removed Search component and module, left over from an old migration — removed from Joomla itself in version 4 and would stop the site loading on Joomla 6.
    • The Superfish and Supersubs menu scripts are no longer loaded, along with the Dropkick select-box script, the Backstretch background-image script and a compatibility shim for a jQuery feature withdrawn in 2013. The drop-down menus are now handled by the template's own stylesheet and code.
    • Internet Explorer conditional blocks and the related compatibility scripts.
    • The obsolete legacy on/off switch controls in the template settings.
    • The old JavaScript web-font loader.
    • The leftover Bootstrap 2 stylesheet files and the old icon sprite they carried, no longer used after the move to Bootstrap 5 and Font Awesome.

    Security

    • Output escaping applied throughout the template, so every place a template setting is printed into the page is now escaped.
    • Direct-access guards confirmed on every template entry point.
    • PHP 8 compatibility work throughout.

    Known limitations

    • The slideshow still uses the camera.js library, and the template still loads jQuery along with a small number of older jQuery plug-ins that camera.js depends on. Migrating the slideshow to a modern replacement is scheduled for a later release.

    Version 6.1.2.1

Maintenance release — layout corrections shared across our template range. Several fixes were developed while working on our other templates over the past week. This release brings Energize up to the same level. Nothing in the design changes — we checked the page measurements before and after and they are identical — and your settings are untouched.

    Fixed

    • Uneven left and right margins on some pages. Full-width bands relied on a behaviour the newer layout framework changed, so content could sit closer to one edge than the other — most visible on interior pages rather than the home page.
    • Rows carried over from the older layout system were given spacing the original design never had, which could push content marginally wider than intended and, in some layouts, allow a page to be dragged sideways.
    • The version Joomla reported for Energize was from 2013. The record Joomla reads had never been refreshed since the Joomla 3.2 era, so the administrator showed a thirteen-year-old version regardless of what you had installed.

    Note

    • These are corrections rather than changes — if your site looks right today, it will still look right after updating, with the rough edges above smoothed out. Ships in both the template package and the quickstart.

    Version 5.4.0.1

Maintenance release — fixes for issues found in real-world use on a live production site. With thanks to Michael Mullan, whose Expression bug report led to this maintenance pass across our templates.

    • Fixed: pagination arrows (first/previous/next/last) rendered as empty squares — Joomla 4+ uses newer icon class names the template never mapped. Now self-contained SVGs.
    • Improved: search button sits snug against the search input.
    • Fixed: the template version shown after install now tracks the real release version.

    Version 5.4.0

First Joomla 5 native release. Energize no longer loads its own Bootstrap 2 stylesheets: it renders on Joomla 5’s bundled Bootstrap 5, loaded through Joomla, with a compatibility stylesheet that keeps its Bootstrap 2 layout classes (and the 1170 px boxed grid) working, so the design looks as it did. The old jQuery menu, select-box, background and Internet Explorer plug-ins are no longer loaded, Google Fonts load directly, the social links cover 13 current networks with Font Awesome 6 icons, the login form is a Bootstrap 5 dialog, every on/off setting uses Joomla’s own switch, and the 110 places where template settings are written into the page are now escaped. jQuery itself still loads, for the camera slideshow and the phone menu panel. Compared with the previous download (24.06.2025 5.3.0): 205 → 206 files, 1 added, 0 removed, 8 modified. The Quickstart is now a standard Joomla installer with Joomla 5.4.7.

    Added

    Bootstrap 5 compatibility layer

    • New css/bs2-bs5-bridge.css (24 KB), linked after the template’s own stylesheets and colour preset, with a file-time version marker. It lets Energize’s Bootstrap 2 markup, and Bootstrap 2 markup in your own modules and articles, lay out on Bootstrap 5:
      • Bootstrap 2 grid: .row-fluid as a flex row, .span1–.span12 widths and gutters (inside .row-fluid, inside .row, and on their own), .offset1–.offset11, .pull-left / .pull-right, and the hidden-phone / visible-phone utilities.
      • The Bootstrap 2 container widths: 1170 px from 1200 px up, 940 px and 724 px on smaller screens and full width on phones, instead of Bootstrap 5’s 1320 px (container-1170-cap).
      • Phone stacking: every grid cell becomes a full-width block up to 767 px, as it did in Bootstrap 2 (bs2-responsive-span-stack, mobile-row-block).
      • Bootstrap 2 behaviour that Bootstrap 5 dropped: the body margin reset, the container clearfix, the tab-panel show/hide rules, and the btn-default / btn-inverse button colours.
      • Social links show their Font Awesome icon instead of the old sprite text indent (fa6-social-reset), and slideshow images keep their cover crop (camera-img-maxwidth).
    • css/layout.css (2 selectors) and css/responsive-template.css (4 selectors, including the header search box and currency positioning) gained .row versions of their .row-fluid rules, since the page markup now uses .row.

    Modern social network support

    • Eight new social services, each with a URL field and an on/off switch: Instagram, Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon, YouTube, TikTok, Pinterest, Discord (fields instagram/instagramON … discord/discordON). With X, Facebook, LinkedIn, Vimeo and RSS that makes 13.
    • Twitter is now X: the label reads “X (formerly Twitter)” and the icon is the X logo. The field is still twitter / twitterON, so your existing link and switch carry over.
    • The icons are Font Awesome 6 brand glyphs (fa-brands fa-x-twitter, fa-instagram and so on) instead of slices of the old image sprite. Each link has a screen-reader label and rel="noopener".

    Font Awesome 6

    • The front end loads Font Awesome 6.5.2 (all.min.css) with v4-shims.min.css, so fa fa-* icons in your existing articles and modules keep working.

    Security helpers

    • New helper functions at the top of index.php: phEsc() (HTML escaping), phHexColor() (colour validation) and phCssDim() (CSS size validation). Where they are used is listed under Security.

    Changed

    Joomla 5 platform

    • Bootstrap 5 is loaded by Joomla itself (JHtml::_('bootstrap.loadCss', true, $this->direction), next to the existing Bootstrap::framework() call), so it is Joomla’s own copy in /media/vendor/bootstrap/, kept current by Joomla updates, and right-to-left sites get the RTL build.
    • Page markup in index.php: the 15 row-fluid rows are now row, and the 12 fixed spanN columns (top bar, logo, top menu, search, side columns, breadcrumbs, newsflash, bottom-long and footer) are now col-md-N. Module rows whose widths are worked out in PHP keep their spanN classes, which the compatibility layer lays out.
    • The Internet Explorer conditional comments around the <html> tag are gone.
    • templateDetails.xml version 24.06.2025 5.3.0 → 5.4.0; the description panel reads 5.4.0 (2026-07-14) and index.php carries a matching @version header. method="upgrade" kept, so an existing install updates in place.

    Login form

    • The login dialog (#LoginForm) is a Bootstrap 5 modal: modal fade with a centred .modal-dialog / .modal-content wrapper, opened by data-bs-toggle="modal" / data-bs-target and closed by data-bs-dismiss="modal".
    • It replaces the jQuery .toggle("fast") open handler, the Bootstrap 2 ahide afade classes, the inline display:none and the inline onclick on the Close button.

Menus, select boxes, background and fonts without old jQuery plug-ins

    • Drop-down menus open on hover through the template’s own CSS (css/nav.css) instead of the Superfish/Supersubs plug-ins. Submenus have a 15em minimum width (new rule in css/template.css). The drop-down animation settings (dropopacity, dropheight, dropwidth, dropspeed) and the minimum-width setting dropdownhandler1 belonged to those plug-ins and no longer have any effect.
    • Select boxes in the currency position are plain HTML selects instead of DropKick.
    • The full-page background image (bodybackgroundimage) is set as a CSS background-size: cover, fixed and centred background by a few lines of plain JavaScript, instead of the Backstretch plug-in.
    • Google Fonts: the WebFontConfig script that injected webfont.js from ajax.googleapis.com is replaced by preconnect hints and a direct stylesheet link for the same Open Sans weights, with display=swap.

    Template Options screen

    • The 27 remaining legacy class="switch" checkboxes are now Joomla’s native on/off switchers (joomla.form.field.radio.switcher), e.g. RSSON, H1TitleImgText, H2TitleImgText, cam_autoAdvance, cam_hover, cam_navigation, cam_pagination. The eight new social switches use the same control: 35 switchers in all, no legacy checkboxes left.
    • Fields 143 → 149 (16 added, 10 removed); the “Linkedin” label now reads “LinkedIn”.

    Header refinements

    • The top bar (login, register and social links) is shaded as dark as the menu bar on desktop (rgba(0,0,0,0.57), was 0.2).
    • The logo panel (#site-name-handler) sits 16 px from the left edge (was 4 px), keeping its 7 px rounded corners.
    • On phones the social icon strip gets 5 px top padding and no right margin, the login/register row loses its 20 px bottom margin, and the search box sits 18 px above the slideshow.

    Stylesheets

    • css/layout.css, css/template.css, css/responsive-template.css and the compatibility stylesheet carry a file-time version marker, so style changes show straight after an update instead of waiting for visitors’ browser caches to expire.

    Fixed

    • A JavaScript error on every page with the slideshow. jquery.mobile.customized.min.js stopped with “Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'concat')” under Joomla 5’s jQuery 3 and never initialised, so its touch-swipe did nothing. It is no longer loaded; the camera slideshow runs without it.
    • PHP “Undefined variable” warnings from two overrides on Joomla 5. Joomla 5 no longer passes $type to html/mod_login/default.php or $moduleclass_sfx to html/mod_breadcrumbs/default.php; both now fall back to a default.
    • The × on the template’s system-message bar did not close it: it used the Bootstrap 2 data-dismiss="alert" attribute, which Joomla 5’s Bootstrap ignores. It now uses data-bs-dismiss="alert".
    • The footer copyright line ran past the right edge of the dark footer box. It now ends inside the box with 15 px of padding.
    • The template manifest carried two <version> tags (02.12.2013 3.2 and 24.06.2025 5.3.0). Joomla reads the first one, so it could report the 2013 version. The stale tag is gone.

    Removed

Legacy scripts and stylesheets no longer loaded

    • Bootstrap 2 stylesheets: css/bootstrap/bootstrap.min.css, bootstrap-responsive.min.css, bootstrap-extended.css, plus css/bootstrap.css and css/responsive.css.
    • jQuery plug-ins: superfish.js, supersubs.js, jquery.dropkick-1.0.0.js, jquery.backstretch.min.js, jquery.mobile.customized.min.js, and the webfont.js loader. The inline jQuery.browser Internet Explorer detection shim is deleted.
    • Internet Explorer support: selectivizr-min.js, modernizr.js, the html5shiv script from html5shiv.googlecode.com, and the stylesheets ie9-10.css (which was loaded for every browser), ie6.css and ie.css.
    • The files remain in js/ and css/, but nothing loads them.

    Retired social services

    • Five social slots removed with their switches: Google+ (gplus), MySpace, StumbleUpon, Digg, Blogger, plus Blogger’s two language strings (TPL_ENERGIZE_BLOGGER_LABEL / _DESC; 68 → 66 strings).

    Security

    • 110 places where a template setting is written into the page now go through phEsc(), and the header height through phCssDim():
      • The colour, size and position values in the inline <style> block (body, header, menu, buttons, modules, footer and slideshow captions).
      • The colour preset file name in the preset stylesheet link (choosetheme), the logo and slogan image paths, the background image path, and the slideshow’s minimum height.
      • The site name and slogan text (H1Title / H2Title), which now print as plain text.
      • All 13 social link URLs.

    Quickstart Installer

The Quickstart is a complete Joomla 5.4.7 site with Energize installed as the active template and the full demo content.

    • It is now a standard Joomla installation package (energize-quickstart-J5.4.7-14.07.2026.zip) that runs Joomla’s own web installer. The previous Quickstart was an Akeeba Backup archive (.jpa) restored with Kickstart 7.2.0.
    • Bundled extensions: Joomla 5.4.7, MCP For J 2.3.2, Akeeba Backup 10.3.6, Weblinks 5.1.0, StageIt 5.7.3.
    • The templates/ folder holds only cassiopeia, energize and system; the Joomla 2.5-era Bluestork administrator template is no longer installed.
    • The demo template style has all 13 social networks switched on, and the retired networks’ saved settings are gone.
    • A clean starting state: the 69 demo articles start with zero hits, all 13 post-install messages are dismissed, the 16 template overrides are marked as reviewed (no “changes found” warning), no item is left checked out (the “Most Read” module had been locked since 2023), and the footer reads © 2026.
    • The dead FOF 3.x update site (cdn.akeebabackup.com) is disabled, so update checks no longer try to reach it.

    Package format

    • Standalone template: Energize now installs as a Joomla package, pkg_energize-5.4.0.zip (pkg_energize.xml wrapping packages/tpl_energize.zip), instead of the bare template zip. It declares method="upgrade", so an existing Energize updates in place.
    • Quickstart bundle: a complete Joomla 5.4.7 install with Energize pre-loaded as the active template.
Version numbering: from this release Energize uses plain version numbers (5.4.0). The previous download was versioned 24.06.2025 5.3.0.
