Version 5.4.10
Joomla 5.4.10. The Quickstart now installs Joomla 5.4.10 (Joomla 5.4.10 release notes), and the template version is now 5.4.10 to match.
Error pages. "Page not found" and "access denied" pages now show inside the template, with its header, menus and footer, and fit a phone screen.
Category pages. The category description lines up with the products (no extra space at the sides).
Quickstart. A fresh install no longer lists stale update notices.
October 2, 2026Version 5.4.9.1
Quickstart fix. The Quickstart no longer fails to install on MySQL hosts with a "prepared statement protocol" error. Thanks to Iryna for reporting this. The template itself is unchanged apart from its version number.
September 30, 2026Version 5.4.9
Joomla 5.4.9. The Quickstart now installs Joomla 5.4.9, a security and bug-fix release (Joomla 5.4.9 release notes), and the template version is now 5.4.9 to match. There are no visual changes. Installing the template update does not update Joomla itself; update Joomla from System → Update → Joomla.
September 30, 2026Version 5.4.8.7
Fix. After the previous security update, print and email views, popup windows and the VirtueMart checkout step (pages served with
tmpl=component) could return an error page. The template'scomponent.phpnow defines the escaping helper it uses. There are no visual changes. Please update if you installed the previous version.September 28, 2026Version 5.4.8.6
Security update. Module, menu and tab titles are now escaped wherever the template writes them into your pages (module headings, title attributes and the mega menu), so a title containing a quote or markup can no longer break out of its place in the page. There are no visual changes. Recommended for all sites.
September 28, 2026Version 5.4.8.5
Security update. Every template setting that is written into your pages is now escaped for the place it lands in (HTML, attributes, CSS and JavaScript), so a setting value can no longer break out of its context. The error page now escapes its message and title too. There are no visual changes. Recommended for all sites.
September 10, 2026Version 5.4.8.4
Fixed a problem where a large logo could fill the whole screen on phones. The stylesheet that keeps this template working with current Joomla was letting the header logo draw at its own full size on small screens instead of scaling it down to fit the space, so a logo wider than the phone screen — common, since logos are usually exported at 1500 pixels or more to stay sharp — pushed the header out and showed visitors a giant close-up of one or two letters instead of the site. Logos now scale down to fit on every screen size, and a logo already small enough to fit is displayed exactly as before. Update the template to pick this up; if you built your site from the Quick Start, a rebuilt one is on your downloads page.
September 7, 2026Version 5.4.8.3
Fixed the built-in homepage slideshow collapsing to a thin strip. This was a template CSS issue in the modernized Swiper slideshow — the slide area lost its height, so the images no longer filled it. Updating to this version restores the slideshow to its full height.
September 3, 2026Version 5.4.8.2
Maintenance release.
- Fixed: add-to-cart forms were missing their security token. Affected add-to-cart buttons in the product listings and on the product detail page. This release ships the corrected forms.
- Removed two unused third-party demo templates from the Quick Start (
horme_3andvmbeez3). They were VirtueMart demo templates that served no purpose in your site, and both had broken error pages of their own. Your site is unaffected — neither was in use.
Both the template package and the Quick Start have been rebuilt for this release. Download the latest from your member area.
August 28, 2026Version 5.4.8
This is the first release of FashionShop from Cybersalt, and it is a substantial one. The template has been rebuilt on Joomla 5.4.8 and VirtueMart 4.8.0, and its front end modernized throughout: Bootstrap 5 in place of Bootstrap 2, Font Awesome 6, a working mobile header with a slide-out menu, a shopping cart that is reachable on a phone, a current social set, and a long list of store, layout, form, accessibility and security fixes. Much of the original template's JavaScript had stopped working years ago under modern jQuery and was failing silently; that has been removed or replaced. If you are coming from the original FashionShop the shop will look familiar, and behave considerably better — particularly on phones, where the cart was previously unreachable.
Added
- The shopping cart is now reachable on a phone. The original rendered it into a desktop-only header area with no phone equivalent, so a customer could add items and then have no way to open the cart. It now moves into the phone toolbar as a 44 pixel control and moves back on a wider screen; the desktop header is unchanged.
- A working mobile menu — the phone header carries a menu button opening a slide-out drawer with the full site menu.
- A row of six touch-sized controls beneath the brand bar on a phone: menu, account, register, search, social and cart, each a 44 pixel target in one white style with dark glyphs.
- A Register control on phones. The account and register links were desktop-only; there was no way to start an account from the phone toolbar.
- Sub-menus in the drawer expand in place when you tap the control beside a parent item, instead of navigating away and losing your place.
- A tap-to-reveal eye control on password fields, so a customer can check what they typed before submitting. It hides the password again on submit, and suppresses itself wherever Joomla already provides one, so no field ever shows two.
- A Favicon tab in the template settings, with a crop tool. Choose an image and the template builds the icon set your visitors' devices ask for and links them for you.
- Twelve social networks in the template settings — Bluesky, Discord, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Mastodon, Pinterest, Threads, TikTok, Vimeo, X and YouTube — replacing the original's sprite-image pair.
- Colour pickers on the template's colour settings, in place of plain text boxes into which you typed a hex code from memory.
- A compatibility shim for jQuery methods modern jQuery no longer provides, so the donor scripts still carried forward keep working instead of failing silently.
- Cache-busting on the template's main stylesheets, helper scripts and icons, so visitors get updated files immediately after an upgrade rather than a stale cached copy. One preset stylesheet is not yet covered.
- Form fields across the shop now meet the 16 pixel threshold below which iOS zooms the page when a customer taps a field and does not zoom back out.
- The quickstart ships with StageIt and MCP for Joomla already installed, so a new site has a staging workflow available from the start.
Changed
- Built against VirtueMart 4.8.0 and Joomla 5.4.8.
- Rebuilt on Bootstrap 5. The original shipped Bootstrap 2 markup, which Joomla stopped supporting years ago; grids, rows, columns, forms, tabs, modals, collapses, popovers and the responsive utility classes have all been carried across, in 118 documented corrections.
- Font Awesome 6.5.2, with the version-4 compatibility shims so older icon names continue to work.
- Google Fonts are requested over a secure connection from the page head; the original used an insecure request, which on a secure site is blocked outright.
- 94 of the template's settings now use Joomla's own on/off switches instead of the original hand-built checkboxes, so the settings screen looks and behaves like the rest of Joomla.
- The account, register, search and cart controls in the top bar are legible. They were set at 10 pixels against the main menu's 16, and their labels overflowed 32 pixel icon boxes, which is what made them look crowded. They now match the main menu's size and sit on one line with even spacing.
- The mobile toolbar controls share one white style with dark glyphs at a 12.6:1 contrast ratio, rather than a mix of accent-filled and white.
- The product-slider arrows sit inside the slider, centred on the product image, at a 44 pixel touch target.
- The mobile drawer, search panel and social panel share one visual style, so they read as one system.
- Menu drop-downs are driven by CSS rather than by the jQuery plug-ins the original used, which no longer load.
- Version numbering now tracks the Joomla release the template is built for, and reads the same in the template manager, the installed package and the template's own settings. The original displayed a legacy date string.
- The template now ships as an installable package rather than a bare template zip, so it registers itself with Joomla's Update Manager.
Fixed
- The shop's login page returned a server error on Joomla 5. The template's VirtueMart login override called form-validation and modal helpers that Joomla removed, either of which is fatal — a customer trying to sign in got an error page rather than a login form. The same removed helpers were also called by the product slick-slider module and the ask-a-question form. All have been replaced with their current equivalents.
- Template source code was printed into every menu on the page. An earlier edit wrapped its own removal note in an instruction to print it rather than in a comment, so a fragment of PHP appeared in the top menu and again in each footer menu — nine times on the home page.
- The site name printed its own markup as text across the top of every page. The title setting is designed to carry a little decorative markup — this design uses it for the shopping-bag icon beside the name — and a security pass had escaped it, so the tags themselves appeared on screen. The markup is now filtered rather than escaped: the decorative tags render, and scripts and event handlers are stripped.
- The product-slider arrows were barely visible. They sat 30 pixels outside the slider, so on a phone half of the left arrow was off the edge of the screen; they were sized around an 80 pixel glyph; and they centred on the whole module rather than on the product image.
- Tabbed modules did nothing when clicked. The tab controls used the pre-Bootstrap-5 attribute, which Bootstrap 5 ignores, and the template carries no tab script of its own.
- The cart count spilled off the right edge of the screen on a phone.
- On small phones the site name ran underneath the menu button.
- Drop-down menus no longer close before you can reach them. Moving the mouse from a menu heading down to its drop-down crossed a gap where neither was hovered, so the menu closed on the way.
- Editing a delivery or billing address during checkout produced a fatal error on PHP 8 and the customer could not proceed. Inherited from a legacy VirtueMart view; the faulty check has been replaced.
- Twelve VirtueMart account fields were small enough that iOS zoomed the page on tap and did not zoom back out — leaving the customer part-way through their address on a page wider than their screen. VirtueMart emits its own form markup, which the general rule could not reach.
- The coupon box and the guest-checkout password fields on the cart page had the same problem, and only appear once there is something in the cart.
- The add-to-cart quantity box on every product tile had it too.
- Joomla's own icons no longer render as empty squares — the show/hide control on password fields, and the Previous, Next, First and Last buttons on article and category listings.
- The password show/hide icon rendered as a bare dot on light buttons; it now takes the ink colour of the button it sits on.
- Tall single-column articles are no longer clipped to their title on the featured-articles view.
- Pages no longer scroll sideways on a phone, at any width down to 320 pixels.
- Footer columns stack cleanly on a phone rather than being squeezed side by side.
- The close control on dialogs renders its glyph rather than an empty box.
- Sub-menus in the drawer no longer have their last items clipped when the list is taller than the panel.
- Empty header and search bands no longer reserve blank space on phones where nothing is rendered.
Removed
- The jQuery loader the original shipped is no longer loaded, along with the superfish and supersubs menu plug-ins, backstretch, dropkick and selectnav that depended on it. Their loaders had already gone, so every call to them threw and took the rest of its script block down with it.
- Modernizr and Selectivizr are no longer loaded — compatibility shims for browsers that no longer exist.
- The Internet Explorer conditional blocks and the stylesheets they pulled in.
- An icon font declaration pointing into a Joomla folder that has not existed since Joomla 4.
- Two dead VirtueMart 3 Klarna payment plugins, which VirtueMart 4 does not ship and whose update address has never been valid. No payment method or order used them.
- The original hand-built on/off switch markup in the template settings, replaced by Joomla's own.
Security
- 128 output-escaping call sites across the template's main output, so values from the database and from the template's settings are escaped before they reach the page.
- The template's colour settings are validated against a strict list of permitted values before being written into the page's styles — 14 settings across 52 places where they are output.
- The site title and slogan are filtered through Joomla's own input filter rather than escaped outright: the decorative markup the design uses is allowed, and scripts, iframes and event handlers are removed.
- Google Fonts are requested over a secure connection; the original used an insecure request, which is a mixed-content failure on any secure site.
- The password reveal control re-hides the password when the form is submitted, so it is not left visible on a shared or unattended screen.
Housekeeping
- Demo content ships with article and product hit counters at zero, rather than carrying our own preview traffic.
- Two update-site records had a stray line break in front of their address, which the download library rejected silently. Both trimmed.
Known limitations
- The slideshow is still the original camera.js, with its jQuery dependency carried forward behind the compatibility shim rather than replaced. It works, and it is on the list to be rebuilt.
- Some of the slideshow's remaining configuration values are still written into the page without validation. These are administrator-only settings, so the exposure is limited to someone who can already edit the template, and the rest are queued for the next release.
- The Slick Slider home page style uses a different carousel library from the product sliders, and its arrows have not had the same treatment.
- The update service the package registers with is not live yet, so Check for Updates will not find this template until it is. Installing and updating by hand from your account works as it always has.
- Two of the original's scripts are still carried forward alongside the slideshow — a parallax effect and a scrolling helper — rather than replaced.
With thanks to Zoltán, whose report led us to the Joomla 5 login fault fixed across this range, and to Michael Mullan, whose Expression bug report led to this maintenance pass across our templates.
