Fusion Changelog
Version 6.2.0
First Joomla 6 native release. Fusion has been rebuilt for Joomla 6.2.0 + PHP 8 + Bootstrap 5. The previous download is the vendor’s Joomla 6.0.0 package (fusion.zip, version string06.11.2025 6.0.0), and every “before” number below is measured against it. Every Joomla 3 class call is gone (19), the template’s MooTools code is gone, the template options use Joomla’s own on/off switches and colour pickers, the template settings written into the page are escaped, the desktop page is 1170 px wide instead of a fixed 940 px, and there is a new phone layout with a slide-out menu and a fingertip-sized button row. Joomla 6’s Bootstrap 5 replaces the template’s Bootstrap 2; the template’s own markup keeps its Bootstrap 2 classes and renders through a compatibility stylesheet. The Camera slideshow stays. Template files: 244 → 205, with 11 added, 50 removed and 31 modified. The template version is now 6.2.0, matching the Joomla version it ships with.Added
Bootstrap 5 rendering through a compatibility stylesheet
index.phploads Joomla 6’s bundled Bootstrap 5 (/media/vendor/bootstrap/css/bootstrap.min.css) in place of the template’s own Bootstrap 2 sheets (css/bootstrap.css,css/responsive.cssand thecss/bootstrap/folder).- New
css/bs2-bs5-bridge.css(revision2026-10-24.163), linked last in the page head with a file-time version marker, after the template’s own stylesheets. It lets Fusion’s Bootstrap 2 markup render correctly on Bootstrap 5: the.row-fluid/.spanNgrid and its phone stacking, the Bootstrap 2 responsive utilities (hidden-phone,hidden-tablet,hidden-desktopand theirvisible-twins), tab panes, collapse,.welland.page-header, and base typography. It also carries the Fusion-specific rules (phone insets, login and register button alignment, form and button colours, the 1170 px frame, the phone menu button colour). - New
js/cs-jq-compat.js(2,245 bytes): restores the jQuery 1.x calls that Joomla 6’s jQuery 3.7 removed but the bundled Camera slideshow still uses. - Font Awesome 6.5.2 (
all.min.css+v4-shims.min.cssfrom cdnjs) on the front end, including the print and pop-up view. The template’sfa fa-*class names keep working through the shims.
New phone layout
- New
js/cs-mobile.js. On phones (up to 767 px) a menu button in the header, filled in the same green as the button row below it with black bars and centred on the logo, opens the main menu as a slide-out panel, with submenus opening in place. - A row of phone buttons of 44×44 px: a second menu (
cs-secondary-toggle), the account button, Search and the social links. The second-menu button reads a new module position,cs-secondary(declared intemplateDetails.xmland output inindex.php), so a menu module published there appears behind that button. - Opening a phone panel dims the page below the button row only; the logo, menu button and button row stay clear.
- Phone slideshow. The Camera slideshow now uses a 4:3 slide on phones (
height: 75%, no minimum height, set inindex.php). The old 2.6:1 slide was a thin strip that its own caption covered completely, so no photo showed. Desktop slideshow sizing is unchanged. - On the Page Break “Article Index” (Joomla 4+ prints it as a floated card), the card goes full width above the text on phones instead of squeezing the article into a 140 px column.
- On the login page the show password eye sits inside the password field.
Error page
error.php(new name). The vendor’s download shipped its error page aserror_.php, a name Joomla never loads, so a missing page fell back to Joomla’s bare system page with no viewport tag and no template CSS. Fusion’s own error page, rewritten on the Joomla 4+ API, is now in place under the name Joomla uses: “page not found” and “access denied” pages show inside the template, with its header, menus, sidebar, footer and phone navigation, and fit a phone screen.
Template options (administrator)
- New Favicon tab (fieldset
faviconsettings, fieldsfaviconandfavicontool, field classfields/favicontool.php). Pick one image and the template writes a 32×32 PNG tab icon and a 180×180 Apple touch icon (phFaviconSet(),phIcoBytes()inindex.php, cached inimages/favicon-generated/);.icoand.svgfiles pass through as they are, and the template’sfavicon.icois the fallback. With thanks to Gianluca, whose favicon question inspired this tool. - 10 new language strings (
TPL_FUSION_FAVICON_*,TPL_FUSION_FAVICONTOOL_*). The language file goes from 66 to 76 strings. - Colour pickers. 42 colour settings that were plain text boxes now open the Coloris picker (
fields/colorpicker.php,js/coloris.min.js,css/coloris.min.css). The oldutils/js_colourchanger/picker is gone. - Custom CSS field (
customcss, in the Custom Code tab), and support for acss/custom.cssfile. Both load after the compatibility stylesheet, so your rules win. The file is deliberately not listed in the package, so a template update can never overwrite or remove it, and the field is stored in the database. - New
fields/adminui.php: help rows in the options run the full width of the form, and the template’s Details panel follows Joomla’s light or dark admin theme. - Template options: 125 → 131 fields, 7 → 8 option groups.
Modern social network support
- Eight new social services, each with its own URL field and show/hide switch: Instagram, Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon, YouTube, TikTok, Pinterest and Discord. They sit with the existing X, Facebook, LinkedIn and Vimeo fields, all on Font Awesome 6 icons.
- The Twitter slot is now labelled X (formerly Twitter). Social links open with
rel="noopener".
Collapsible module styles
- New
js/cs-module-toggle.js(3,203 bytes), loaded fromindex.phpwithdefer. ThetoggleModuleandtoggleModule2module styles inhtml/layouts/chromes/printdata-cs-toggle; this script is what opens and closes the module.
Changed
Joomla 6 platform
- Built for Joomla 6.2.0 (previous download: version string
06.11.2025 6.0.0), with no need for Joomla’s Backward Compatibility plugin. templateDetails.xmlversion06.11.2025 6.0.0→6.2.0and creation date2026-11-06. The version shown in the template description and the@versiondocblock inindex.phpmatch.method="upgrade"is kept, so an existing install updates in place.
Page width
- Desktop pages are 1170 px wide (from 1200 px screens up), like every current Energize Themes template; the template was a fixed 940 px page. The inner boxes keep the template’s own inset and the 920–1000 px background artwork is stretched to the new width. Screens between 980 and 1199 px, tablets and phones keep their layouts.
Defaults for a fresh install
- The site name / logo links to the home page, and the built-in slideshow is switched on with autoplay on desktop and phones.
logoLinked,cam_turnOn,cam_autoAdvanceandcam_mobileAutoAdvancenow default to on; they had no default and started off. Existing sites keep their saved settings.
J3 → J6 API migration
- 19 Joomla 3 static class calls → 0. Each moved to its namespaced Joomla 4+ form (
JText→Text,JFactory→Factoryand so on). They were in the old error page (13),html/pagination.php(3),html/mod_search/default.phpand one more override. In total 18 of the 29 PHP overrides changed. html/mod_search/default.phpread the Joomla 3 variable$moduleclass_sfx; it now reads the module suffix from the module parameters.- Template options: 25 on/off settings that were legacy
type="checkbox"fields are now Joomla’sradioswitcher (for exampleH1TitleImgText,H2TitleImgText,RSSON,cam_autoAdvance,cam_mobileAutoAdvance). The template has no legacy checkboxes left.
Scripts, fonts and icons
- MooTools code is gone.
js/tipz.jsand theaddEventscript insidetoggleModule.php/toggleModule2.php(MooTools calls: 3 → 0) cannot run on Joomla 4 or later. The “Nice tooltips” option (nicetipzlabels) is still on the Options screen, but it no longer loads a script. - No longer loaded by the page:
html5.js(loaded over plainhttp://),modernizr.js,selectivizr-min.js,superfish.js,supersubs.js,jquery.mobile.customized.min.js,imgSizer.jsand thewebfont.jsloader. jQuery is still loaded: the Camera slideshow needs it. jQuery calls in the template: 29 → 9. - The Google font (Caudex) now loads through a normal stylesheet link in the page head with
display=swap, replacing theWebFontConfigscript loader (2 → 0, inindex.phpandcomponent.php). - The icons on the template’s Options screen load again. The manifest loaded Font Awesome 4 from MaxCDN, which no longer serves it (MaxCDN references 1 → 0); the screen now uses Font Awesome 6.5.2 with the v4 shims from cdnjs.
- The Camera slideshow scripts (
camera.js,camera.min.js,jquery.easing.1.3.js) andselectnav.min.jsstay injs/. The folder goes from 28 files to 8.
Template files
- Template stylesheets updated:
css/template.css(17,429 → 17,366 bytes),css/layout.css(10,637 → 10,568),css/camera.css(9,969 → 9,628) and the six colour presetscss/presets/style1.css–style6.css(about 3,900 → 4,040 bytes each). html/layouts/chromes/slides.php,vmdefault.php,toggleModule.phpandtoggleModule2.php, and the overrides inhtml/com_content/(archive, category, featured),html/mod_breadcrumbs,html/mod_login,html/mod_menuandhtml/mod_searchnow escape what they print. The login pop-up’s “Create an account” item no longer shows a bare bullet.- The
html/_mod_menu/folder (a leftover copy of the menu overrides that Joomla never loads) is gone; the live ones inhtml/mod_menu/remain.
Fixed
Footer custom code
- Footer custom code. Code entered in the template’s “Insert code into template footer” box was saved but never added to the page. It is now printed just before the closing
</body>tag, the same way the header box works.
Pages that failed on Joomla 4+
- Paginated pages returned a 500 on PHP 8.
html/pagination.phpread$page['data']['active']as if it were a list, but$page['data']is a string of link HTML, so PHP 8 stopped withTypeError: Cannot access offset of type string on stringon any paginated blog or list view. The two dead blocks that did nothing but crash are removed, and the Joomla 3 calls in the file went with them. - Collapsible module style crashed the page.
html/layouts/chromes/toggleModule.phphad a stray close-tag that stranded$headerLeveland anif(as literal text. The file had a PHP parse error, so any module given that style produced a blank page. The tag is removed. - Collapsible module styles open and close again. The Toggle Module styles’ old MooTools script, which Joomla 4 and later cannot run, is replaced by a small built-in script.
- Error pages and server details: an error caused by a missing item (for example a missing news feed) no longer prints the server’s file paths and a technical trace outside debug mode; Joomla’s generic message is shown instead. The error page also escapes the message it prints and casts the error code to a number.
Logo and slogan
- The logo and the slogan both link to the home page. The slogan had no link at all, and the logo’s link setting did nothing unless the template style had been saved once. The link is now on unless you switch it off.
- On a site installed at the domain root, the logo link pointed at the current page; it now always goes to the site’s home page.
Maintenance pass
- Pagination arrows: Joomla 4+’s
icon-angle-left/-right/-double-left/-double-rightbuttons had no mapping in the template’s icon CSS, so they showed no arrow. They now show Font Awesome 6 arrows. - Featured articles: in a one-column featured (home) view, tall intro articles were clipped to their title. They now show in full (
.blog-featured .blog-items.columns-1). - Search button: the global button margin could pull a search button away from its box; search buttons now have
margin:0. - With thanks to Michael Mullan, whose Expression bug report led to this maintenance pass across our templates.
Removed
Files removed (50)
- Bootstrap 2 and Internet Explorer files (14):
css/bootstrap.css,css/bootstrap.zip, the seven files incss/bootstrap/,css/responsive.cssand the four IE sheetscss/ie.css,ie6.css,ie8.cssandieall.css. Joomla 6’s Bootstrap 5 and the compatibility stylesheet take their place. - Scripts (24 files from
js/):bootstrap.min.js,jquery-1.8.1.min.js,jquery.noConflict.js,jquery.mobile.customized.min.js,modernizr.js,selectivizr-min.js,superfish.js,supersubs.js,hoverIntent.js,imgSizer.js,flexibility.js,tipz.js,dropkick.js,jquery.dropkick-1.0.0.js,jquery.selectric.js,jquery.backstretch.min.js,jquery.elevateZoom-3.0.8.min.js,jquery.equalHeights.js,jquery.nicescroll.min.js,jquery.plusanchor.js,jquery-eu-cookie-law-popup.js,owl.carousel.min.js,scrollReveal.min.jsandeasypaginate.js. error_.php, replaced byerror.php(see Added).html/_mod_menu/(5 files), the unused copy of the menu overrides.utils/admin-js.js(a Joomla 3-era admin script for the old checkbox switches) and the oldutils/js_colourchanger/colour picker (jscolor.jsand its four images).
Retired settings
- Four social slots removed with their switches: Blogger, Digg, MySpace and StumbleUpon.
- The settings that went with the old drop-down menu script:
dropheight,dropwidth,dropopacity,dropspeedanddropdownhandler1(the drop-down column-width settingsdropdownhandler2–5remain). - The
colours_handlershelp line that belonged to the old colour-changer.
Security
- Output helpers added in
index.phpandcomponent.php, 150 calls across the template. Every template setting written into the page is escaped for where it lands:phEsc(): HTML text and attributes.phRichText(): the site-name and slogan fields, which may contain simple markup; scripts, styles, iframes andon*event handlers are stripped.phHexColor(),phCssToken(),phCssNum(),phCssDim(),phCssFont(),phCssSelector(),phCssUrl(): colours, sizes, fonts, selectors and image URLs written into the page’s CSS.phJsStr(),phJsLit(): values written into the slideshow’s inline JavaScript.
- Raw
echo $this->params->get(…)output inindex.phpandcomponent.php: 85 lines (109 occurrences) → 2 lines (2 occurrences), the Header and Footer Custom Code fields (headcode, footercode), which are administrator-only by design. Counts are source lines and occurrences of that exact pattern. - The logo and slogan image
alttext is plain escaped text instead of the raw rich-text field.htmlspecialchars/ escape calls in the template: 37 → 76; module titles, menu items and module content written into attributes are escaped in the module chromes and inmod_menu,mod_loginandmod_search. - The error page no longer prints server file paths or a stack trace outside debug mode, escapes the message it prints and casts the error code to a number.
Quickstart
This quickstart is a complete Joomla 6.2.0 site with Fusion pre-configured as the active template, installed with Joomla’s own web installer. It replaces the previous quickstart, an Akeeba Backup archive (
.jpa) restored with Kickstart.- Bundled extensions: Akeeba Backup Core 10.5.0, StageIt 6.6.2, Web Links 5.2.0 and the en-GB language pack 6.2.0.1. The Fusion template package is 6.2.0.
- The demo slideshow shows on the home page only.
- The Smart Search index is built (156 indexed links), so the site search returns results from the first visit.
- The site is not a shop: VirtueMart and K2 are not installed.
Package
- Standalone template: now a Joomla package,
pkg_fusion-6.2.0.zip(pkg_fusion.xml), that installs the Fusion template (tpl_fusion.zip) and registers it in the package manager. It declaresmethod="upgrade", so an existing Fusion updates in place, and<blockChildUninstall>true</blockChildUninstall>, so the template is removed through the package rather than on its own. - Quickstart bundle: a complete Joomla 6.2.0 install with Fusion pre-loaded as the active template.
Earlier history and version numbering: the previous download was the vendor’s Joomla 6.0.0 package dated 06.11.2025. From 6.2.0 the first three digits of the template version match the Joomla release it is built for; a later fix on the same Joomla release adds a fourth digit (6.2.0.1).Version 06.11.2025 6.0.0
