  • Version 6.2.0

First Joomla 6 native release. Lucid has been rebuilt for Joomla 6.2.0 + PHP 8 + Bootstrap 5. The previous download is the vendor's 5.1.0 package (lucid2.zip, version string 04.07.2024 5.1.0, a Joomla 3 template), and every “before” number below is measured against it. Joomla 3 class calls are gone (46 → 0), MooTools is no longer used, the template options use Joomla's own on/off switches and colour pickers, every template setting written into the page is escaped (raw output of settings in index.php: 85 lines → 2), the template's error page works on Joomla 6, and there is a new phone layout with a slide-out menu and a row of fingertip-sized buttons. Joomla 6's Bootstrap 5 is now loaded; the template's own markup keeps its Bootstrap 2 classes and renders through a compatibility stylesheet. The Camera slideshow stays. Template files: 373 → 332, with 10 added, 51 removed and 26 modified. The template version is now 6.2.0, matching the Joomla version it ships with.

    Added

Bootstrap 5 rendering through a compatibility stylesheet

    • index.php loads Joomla 6's bundled Bootstrap 5 (/media/vendor/bootstrap/css/bootstrap.min.css, plus the RTL sheet on right-to-left sites). The template's own Bootstrap 2.2.1 sheet, css/bootstrap.css, is kept and still loaded; the Bootstrap 2 copies in css/bootstrap/ and bootstrap.zip are gone (see Removed).
    • New css/bs2-bs5-bridge.css, revision 2026-10-24.163, linked after the template's own sheets on every page. It lets Lucid's Bootstrap 2 markup (row-fluid / spanN columns, the hidden-phone family of responsive classes, tab panes, .well, .page-header) render correctly on Bootstrap 5, maps Joomla 4+ icon classes (pagination arrows, the password eye) to Font Awesome 6 glyphs, and fixes the log-in dialog, which Bootstrap 5 would otherwise open invisible.
    • Lucid's own additions to the bridge are kept as marked blocks: lucid2-phone-logo-left-slogan-under, lucid2-phone-breadcrumb-below-header, lucid2-phone-fixed-containers-fluid, lucid2-phone-featured-ribbon-below-panels, lucid2-tablet-fixed-containers-fluid, lucid2-desktop-container-width-live, lucid2-forms-20261020, lucid2-phone-20261020, lucid2-icons-20261020 and lucid2-std-20261103.
    • New js/cs-jq-compat.js: restores the jQuery 1.x calls that Joomla 6's jQuery 3.7 removed but the bundled Camera slideshow still makes.
    • Font Awesome 6.5.2 (all.min.css + v4-shims.min.css from cdnjs) on the front end. The template's fa fa-* class names keep working through the shims. The old Font Awesome 4 link pointed at MaxCDN, which no longer serves it, so the icons on the template's Options screen were missing; they load again.

    New phone layout

    • New js/cs-mobile.js. On phones (up to 767 px) a menu button in the header, filled in the template's blue (rgb(12, 108, 189)) with white bars and centred on the logo, opens the main menu as a slide-out panel. Submenus open in place behind visible “+” buttons. This replaces the old selectnav drop-down and jquery.mobile.customized.min.js.
    • A row of 44×44 px buttons under the header in the same blue, for the log-in, search and social panels, with a second menu button that opens the sidebar's menu. Opening a panel dims the page below the button row only, so the logo and menu button stay clear, and tapping outside an open panel closes it.
    • The logo sits at the left with the slogan under it, and the breadcrumb is a blue band under the header (lucid2-phone-logo-left-slogan-under, lucid2-phone-breadcrumb-below-header).
    • The template pinned its content boxes to fixed widths (.container1 920 px, .container2 892 px) with !important, so on a phone the content column was 892 px wide and clipped. They now fit the screen (lucid2-phone-fixed-containers-fluid), and the camera slideshow's dots are centred.
    • The page has no 20 px side gutter on phones (cs-no-bs2-gutter on <body>). The sidebar and footer text have a 20 px inset, sidebar log-in fields run the full width, the desktop artwork that drew a grey strip and a white stripe down the stacked page is replaced by a plain background, and the FEATURED ribbon is clipped by the slideshow instead of hanging past the right edge or covering the search button.
    • Tablets (768–979 px): the page now fits the screen. The fixed 960 px layout made it scroll sideways (lucid2-tablet-fixed-containers-fluid).
    • Blog and category page numbers wrap onto a second line on phones instead of running off the screen.

    Favicon

    • New Favicon tab in the template options (fieldset faviconsettings, fields favicon, faviconspacer and favicontool, field class fields/favicontool.php). Pick one image and the template outputs the icon set (phFaviconSet(), phIcoBytes() in index.php); the template's own favicon.ico remains the fallback. With thanks to Gianluca, whose favicon question inspired this tool.
    • 10 new language strings (TPL_LUCID2_FAVICON_*, TPL_LUCID2_FAVICONTOOL_*). The language file goes from 66 to 76 strings.

    Modern social network support

    • Eight new social services, each with its own URL field and show/hide switch: Instagram, Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon, YouTube, TikTok, Pinterest and Discord. New fields default to #TYPE-URL-HERE and off.
    • The Twitter slot is now X (formerly Twitter) with the X logo (fa-x-twitter). The full set in the footer is X, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, Vimeo, Pinterest, Discord and RSS.

    Template options (administrator)

    • Custom CSS field (customcss, in the Header & Footer Custom Code tab), and support for a css/custom.css file. Both load after the compatibility stylesheet, so your rules win. The file is deliberately not listed in templateDetails.xml, so a template update can never overwrite or remove it, and the field is stored in the database.
    • New fields/colorpicker.php with the Coloris picker (js/coloris.min.js, css/coloris.min.css) for the template's colour settings: 24 colour fields now use it (for example bodybackground, bodytextcolor, buttonscolor, cam_loaderColor).
    • New fields/adminui.php: help rows in the options run the full width of the form, and the template's Details panel follows Joomla's light or dark admin theme.
    • Template options: 110 → 115 fields, 7 → 8 tabs.

    Module styles

    • New js/cs-module-toggle.js, loaded from index.php, for the collapsible module styles (see Fixed).

    Changed

    Joomla 6 platform

    • Built for Joomla 6.2.0 (previous download: Joomla 3.10), with no need for Joomla's Backward Compatibility plugin.
    • templateDetails.xml version 04.07.2024 5.1.0 → 6.2.0, creation date 2026-11-06, extension version 3.10 → 6.1. The version shown in the template description matches. method="upgrade" is kept, so an existing install updates in place.

    Page width

    • Desktop pages are 1170 px wide (from 1200 px screens up), like every current Energize Themes template; the template was a fixed 960 px page. The inner boxes keep the original inset, and the background artwork (the 920–1000 px bitmaps) is stretched to the new width. Screens between 980 and 1199 px, tablets and phones keep their own layouts.

    J3 → J6 API migration

    • 46 Joomla 3 static class calls → 0. Each moved to its namespaced Joomla 4+ form (JText → Text, JFactory → Factory, JHtml → HTMLHelper and the rest). The heaviest files: html/mod_login/default.php (20), error.php (13), index.php (7) and a menu override (2); the breadcrumbs and search overrides had one each.
    • The search override reads the module class suffix from the module's parameters instead of a Joomla 3 variable.
    • 17 of the 28 PHP overrides changed.

    Template options (administrator)

    • 32 on/off settings that were legacy type="checkbox" fields are now Joomla's radio switcher (for example H1TitleImgText, H2TitleImgText, RSSON, cam_autoAdvance, cam_hover). The template has no legacy checkboxes left.
    • Colour settings changed from plain text boxes to the colour picker.
    • Defaults for a fresh install: the site name / logo links to the home page (logoLinked), and the built-in slideshow is switched on with autoplay on desktop and phones (cam_turnOn, cam_autoAdvance, cam_mobileAutoAdvance). Before, they were off. Existing sites keep their saved settings.

    Menus and scripts

    • MooTools is no longer used. The two collapsible module styles ran on MooTools, which Joomla 4+ does not load.
    • The desktop drop-down menus no longer use the Superfish / Supersubs scripts or the selectnav select-box menu. They are driven by the template's CSS with a short delay before closing (submenu-close-delay in the compatibility stylesheet). The drop-down settings tab stays.
    • Drop-down menus no longer close before you can reach them: moving the mouse from a menu heading down to its drop-down crossed a gap where neither was hovered. The whole path is now hoverable; the menu's spacing and appearance are unchanged.
    • The page background images use plain CSS backgrounds instead of the backstretch plug-in, and the select-box styling plug-in (dropkick) is no longer used.
    • js/: 28 → 7 files. Scripts no longer loaded: html5.js (it was fetched from an http:// address), imgSizer.js, jquery.mobile.customized.min.js, modernizr.js, selectivizr-min.js, selectnav.min.js, superfish.js, supersubs.js, webfont.js. Scripts newly loaded: cs-jq-compat.js, cs-mobile.js, cs-module-toggle.js. jQuery itself is still used on the page (Joomla's copy) by the Camera slideshow. jQuery calls in the template: 21 → 4.
    • In component.php (print and pop-up views) the Google font (Open Sans 300/400/800) is linked directly instead of loaded by the WebFontConfig loader script.

    Forms and look

    • Log-in and registration fields are one height, and at 768 px and wider the password fields take the same width as the username field, with the show-password eye inside the password field (lucid2-forms-20261020). The Remember me box sits beside its label, and component-form checkboxes are normal-sized boxes.
    • The log-in pop-up's labels and title are white on its blue box, and its Remember me pair is centred.
    • The “Display #” select in list views no longer clips its value, and the desktop passkey button is sized to its label.
    • Icons: the article-info “Category” line shows a folder glyph, and the contact page's address, phone and fax lines show Font Awesome 6 glyphs; a stray letter “p” before “Street Address” is gone (lucid2-icons-20261020).
    • Several text colours that were hard to read against their background are darker or lighter, and check boxes have more room beside their labels (lucid2-std-20261103).

    Fixed

    Logo and slogan

    • The logo and the slogan both link to the home page. The slogan had no link at all, and the logo's link setting did nothing unless the template style had been saved once. The slogan, as image or as text, sits in the same link (class="cs-slogan-link", looking the same as before), and the link is on unless you switch the logo link off (logoLinked).
    • On a site installed at the domain root, the logo link pointed at the current page; it now always goes to the site's home page.

Pages that failed on Joomla 4+

    • Error pages: error.php used JError and JText (11 lines). With Joomla's Behaviour - Backward Compatibility plugin off, and always on Joomla 6, Joomla could not render any error page, so every “page not found” became a 500. It is rewritten on the namespaced API, and the error page is answered with its proper 404 status. “Page not found” and “access denied” pages show inside the template and fit a phone window (css/presets/style-error.css: about 1.0 KB → 2.4 KB; the old sheet kept a fixed 960 px page and a 570 px message box).
    • Log-in module and menu overrides: html/mod_login/default.php (20 calls), html/mod_menu/default.php (2), html/mod_breadcrumbs/default.php and html/mod_search/default.php used Joomla 3 static classes that Joomla 6 does not provide. They are on the namespaced API.
    • Collapsible module styles (Toggle Module): they open and close again. Their old MooTools script, which Joomla 4 and later cannot run, is replaced by a small built-in script (js/cs-module-toggle.js, 3,203 bytes), loaded from index.php. The toggleModule and toggleModule2 chromes print data-cs-toggle for it, and start expanded. The vendor's toggleModule.php also carried a stray PHP close tag after its variable setup, which printed part of its own code as text on the page.
    • Script errors on every page: orphaned jQuery plug-in calls (selectnav, supersubs / superfish, backstretch, dropkick, jQuery.browser) threw an error on every page and stopped the script that followed. They are removed.
    • Slideshow: the Camera slideshow calls jQuery 1.x functions that jQuery 3.7 removed. js/cs-jq-compat.js restores them.
    • Log-in dialog: Bootstrap 2 marks an open dialog .in and Bootstrap 5 marks it .show, so on Bootstrap 5 it would open completely invisible. Fixed in the compatibility stylesheet; the dialog also closes on an outside click.
    • Sideways scrolling: pages could be dragged sideways on phones and tablets. Fixed in the compatibility stylesheet and the container rules above.

    Maintenance pass

    • The Internet Explorer 6, 7 and 8 stylesheet links in component.php are gone.
    • Pagination arrows: Joomla 4+'s icon-angle-left / -right / -double-left / -double-right buttons had no mapping in the template's icon CSS, so they showed no arrow. They now show Font Awesome 6 arrows. The password eye (icon-eye, icon-eye-slash) is mapped the same way.
    • Featured articles: in a one-column featured (home) view, tall intro articles were clipped to their title. They now show in full.
    • Search button: a global button margin could pull a search button away from its box; search buttons now have margin:0.
    • With thanks to Michael Mullan, whose Expression bug report led to this maintenance pass across our templates.

    Removed

    Files removed (51)

    • Bootstrap 2 copies: css/bootstrap.zip and the css/bootstrap/ folder (bootstrap.css, bootstrap.min.css, bootstrap-extended.css, bootstrap-responsive.css, bootstrap-responsive.min.css, bootstrap-rtl.css, bootstrap-tooltip-extended.css), and js/bootstrap.min.js. Joomla 6's Bootstrap 5 and the compatibility stylesheet take their place. The template's main css/bootstrap.css stays.
    • Internet Explorer and old-browser files: css/ie.css, css/ie6.css, js/selectivizr-min.js, js/modernizr.js, js/flexibility.js, js/imgSizer.js, and the Internet Explorer conditional blocks in index.php.
    • jQuery plug-ins and old copies (js/ 28 → 7 files): jquery-1.8.1.min.js, jquery.noConflict.js, dropkick.js, jquery.dropkick-1.0.0.js, jquery.selectric.js, jquery.backstretch.min.js, jquery.mobile.customized.min.js, jquery.nicescroll.min.js, jquery.elevateZoom-3.0.8.min.js, jquery.equalHeights.js, jquery.plusanchor.js, jquery-eu-cookie-law-popup.js, easypaginate.js, owl.carousel.min.js, scrollReveal.min.js, selectnav.min.js, superfish.js, supersubs.js, parallax.js, tipz.js.
    • Unused stylesheets css/blog.css and css/slideshow.css, and the backup archives js.zip and html/com_content/category/blog_item.zip.
    • html/modules.php: Joomla 3-style module chrome functions built on MooTools; Joomla 4+ uses the layout chromes in html/layouts/chromes/.
    • html/_mod_menu/ (5 files): an unused copy of the menu override in a folder Joomla never reads.
    • utils/admin-js.js (a Joomla 3-era admin script for the old checkbox switches) and the old utils/js_colourchanger/ colour picker (jscolor.js and its four images).

    Stylesheets no longer loaded

    • bootstrap-extended.css, bootstrap-responsive.min.css, font-awesome.min.css (Font Awesome 4 from MaxCDN), grid.css, ie.css, ie6.css, ie8.css, template-rtl.css, template_rtl.css and vm-flexi.css. Newly loaded: all.min.css, v4-shims.min.css, bootstrap.rtl.min.css (right-to-left sites), bs2-bs5-bridge.css and, when present, custom.css.

    Retired settings and code

    • Five social slots removed with their switches: Google+, MySpace, StumbleUpon, Digg and Blogger.
    • The settings that went with the old drop-down menu script: dropheight, dropwidth, dropopacity, dropspeed and dropdownhandler1.
    • colours_handlers, the setting block that fed the old colour picker.
    • Dead code in index.php: a read of a sitewidth setting that no field ever declared.

    Security

    • Output helpers added in index.php: 132 occurrences of the ph* helpers across the template, counting their definitions (0 before). Every template setting written into the page is escaped for where it lands:
      • phEsc(): HTML text and attributes.
      • phRichText(): the site-name and slogan fields, which may contain simple markup. Joomla's input filter keeps the markup but strips scripts, styles, iframes and on* event handlers.
      • phHexColor(), phCssToken(), phCssNum(), phCssDim(), phCssFont(), phCssSelector(), phCssUrl(): colours, sizes, fonts, selectors and image URLs written into the page's CSS.
      • phJsStr(), phJsLit(): values written into the slideshow's inline JavaScript.
    • Raw echo $this->params->get(…) output in index.php: 85 lines (97 occurrences) → 2 lines, the Header and Footer Custom Code fields (headcode, footercode), which are administrator-only by design.
    • Module titles, menu items and the module class suffix written into attributes are escaped in the module chromes (toggleModule, toggleModule2, vmdefault, slides) and in mod_menu, mod_login and mod_search; the category, featured and archive article overrides escape their output too. htmlspecialchars / escape calls in the template: 37 → 75.
    • The X social link opens with rel="noopener".
    • Every PHP file in the template stops unless Joomla loads it (defined('_JEXEC') or die): all 35 files.

    Quickstart

The quickstart is now a complete Joomla 6.2.0 site with Lucid pre-configured as the active template. It replaces the previous quickstart, an Akeeba Backup archive (.jpa) restored with Kickstart.

    • Bundled extensions: Akeeba Backup Core 10.5.0, StageIt 6.6.2, Web Links 5.2.0 and the en-GB language pack 6.2.0.1.
    • The demo content comes to 48 published modules, 124 published menu items and 67 published articles.
    • The demo slideshow shows on the home page only.
    • The Login module (module 44) is published in the loginform position on all pages, so the log-in button opens the log-in pop-up.
    • The Smart Search index is built (155 indexed links), so the site search returns results from the first visit.
    • The logo link is saved on in the template style (logoLinked).
    • A clean starting state: the article hit counters are zero and the action log is empty.
    • VirtueMart and K2 are not installed; Lucid is not a shop.

    Package

    • Standalone template: now a Joomla package, pkg_lucid2-6.2.0.zip (pkg_lucid2.xml), that installs the Lucid template (tpl_lucid2.zip) and registers it in the package manager. It declares method="upgrade", so an existing Lucid updates in place, and <blockChildUninstall>true</blockChildUninstall>, so the template is removed through the package rather than on its own.
    • Quickstart bundle: a complete Joomla 6.2.0 install with Lucid pre-loaded as the active template, replacing the Akeeba .jpa quickstart.
Earlier history and version numbering: the previous download was the vendor's Joomla 3-era package, version 04.07.2024 5.1.0. From 6.2.0 the first three digits of the template version match the Joomla release it is built for; a later fix on the same Joomla release adds a fourth digit (6.2.0.1).

Changelog entries prior to this release are not available.
