    Version 6.2.0

Joomla 6.2.0. The Quickstart now installs Joomla 6.2.0 (Joomla 6.2.0 release notes), and the template version is now 6.2.0 to match.

Error pages. "Page not found" and "access denied" pages now show inside the template, with its header, menus and footer, and fit a phone screen.

Phone header. The menu, account, register and search buttons are clearly visible again. The main menu button is back and opens the menu, and the second menu button lists its links.

Phones. The footer link lists show again.

Quickstart. A fresh install no longer lists stale update notices.

    Version 6.1.4.1

Quickstart fix. The Quickstart no longer fails to install on MySQL hosts with a "prepared statement protocol" error. Thanks to Iryna for reporting this. The template itself is unchanged apart from its version number.

Quickstart. Removed leftover files from the quickstart's top folder.

    Version 6.1.4

Joomla 6.1.4. The Quickstart now installs Joomla 6.1.4, a security and bug-fix release (Joomla 6.1.4 release notes), and the template version is now 6.1.4 to match. There are no visual changes. Installing the template update does not update Joomla itself; update Joomla from System → Update → Joomla.

    Version 6.1.3.6

Fix. After the previous security update, print and email views, popup windows and the VirtueMart checkout step (pages served with tmpl=component) could return an error page. The template's component.php now defines the escaping helper it uses. There are no visual changes. Please update if you installed the previous version.

    September 29, 2026

    Version 6.1.3.5

Joomla 6 fix. Menus that contain an external link, a separator or a menu alias no longer cause an error page on Joomla 6. The template's menu overrides now read menu item settings the Joomla 6 way. There are no visual changes. Recommended for all Joomla 6 sites.

    September 28, 2026

    Version 6.1.3.4

Security update. Module, menu and tab titles are now escaped wherever the template writes them into your pages (module headings, title attributes and the mega menu), so a title containing a quote or markup can no longer break out of its place in the page. There are no visual changes. Recommended for all sites.

    September 28, 2026

    Version 6.1.3.3

Security update and colour fix. The site name and slogan are now escaped where the template writes them into image alt text. This release also restores colour settings (such as the cookie notice background and caption or menu backgrounds) that the previous update rendered as black. Recommended for all sites, especially those that installed the previous version.

    September 28, 2026

    Version 6.1.3.2

Security update. Every template setting that is written into your pages is now escaped for the place it lands in (HTML, attributes, CSS and JavaScript), so a setting value can no longer break out of its context. The error page now escapes its message and title too. There are no visual changes. Recommended for all sites.

    Version 6.1.3.1

Fixed a problem where a large logo could fill the whole screen on phones. The stylesheet that keeps this template working with current Joomla was letting the header logo draw at its own full size on small screens instead of scaling it down to fit the space, so a logo wider than the phone screen — common, since logos are usually exported at 1500 pixels or more to stay sharp — pushed the header out and showed visitors a giant close-up of one or two letters instead of the site. Logos now scale down to fit on every screen size, and a logo already small enough to fit is displayed exactly as before. Update the template to pick this up; if you built your site from the Quick Start, a rebuilt one is on your downloads page.

    Version 6.1.2.2

    Presence Template — Changelog

Presence Template — ChangelogAll notable changes to the Presence Joomla Template

Format inspired by Keep a Changelog. Versioning follows Semantic Versioning.

    Version 6.1.2.22026-08-06

Maintenance release. Front-end accessibility and legibility fixes found while testing every view, plus a proper template error page.

    Added

    • A styled 404 / error page. The template's file list had always named error.php, but the file itself was missing, so a broken link or mistyped address fell back to Joomla's plain system error page with none of your site's styling. Presence now ships its own, using the template's error stylesheet.

    Fixed

    • “Read more” buttons were almost invisible. On every blog and featured article listing the button rendered white text on an almost-white background. The same fault affected the Advanced Search button and the +/− toggles on the category list. All now show white text on the template's accent colour.
    • Buttons stayed unreadable after you clicked them. Hovering or clicking a button left it pale-on-pale, and it stayed that way until you clicked elsewhere on the page — the hover styling was being kept by the keyboard-focus state. Hover, focus and click states are now legible on every button.
    • The passkey sign-in graphic filled the login page. The “Sign in with a passkey” icon had no size limit and expanded to over 1,100 pixels square, pushing the login form off screen. It is now a normal 150 pixel icon, and its colour matches the button label.
    • Accessibility: the category expand/collapse controls now meet contrast requirements instead of rendering a white glyph on a near-white button.

Administrator screens are unchanged in this release — see 6.1.2.1 for those.

    August 5, 2026

    Version 6.1.2.1

Maintenance release. A pass over the template's administrator screens: a proper colour picker, a tidier Options panel, dark-mode support, and the removal of several pieces of dead code that were throwing JavaScript errors in the Joomla administrator.

    Added

    • A real colour picker on every colour option. All 84 colour settings across the Options screens now open a visual picker — a colour gradient, hue and transparency sliders, a hex box and a row of quick swatches — instead of asking you to type a hex code by hand. Transparency is supported.
    • Dark mode support in the administrator. The template's panel on the Details tab now follows the Joomla administrator's colour scheme, including when it is set to follow your operating system.

    Changed

    • Clearer Options tab names. Removed the redundant trailing “Settings” from the tab labels — they now read Basic, Site Name And Slogan, Drop Down Menu, Built-in Slideshow and Theme.
    • The Favicon tab and its crop tool now display their proper labels.

    Fixed

    • Colour settings showed as plain text boxes. The template's original colour picker was wired to a JavaScript library that was never actually loaded, so every colour field fell back to a bare text input stretched across the full width of the screen.
    • Two JavaScript errors in the administrator. The template Options screen reported jscolor is not defined and jQuery is not defined on every load. Both are gone; the Options screen is now error-free.
    • The Favicon tab showed a raw language key instead of the word “Favicon”.
    • Unreadable text in dark mode. The template information panel was fixed to a light background with dark text, so it stayed light — and hard to read — when the administrator was in dark mode.

    Removed

    • The obsolete jscolor colour library and its 84 unused start-up calls.
    • A legacy administrator script left over from the template's old on/off switches, which needed a version of jQuery that Joomla no longer loads.
    • A dead reference to Font Awesome 4.6.3 on a content-delivery network that no longer serves it; the administrator panel now uses the same Font Awesome 6 the template already ships.
    • The now-unused utils folder these files lived in, trimming the download.

No front-end changes in this release — your site's appearance is unchanged.

    Version 6.1.2

Major release — Presence is now genuinely Joomla 6 native. This is by far the largest update Presence has ever had, and the first release to use proper version numbering. The template has been rebuilt from Bootstrap 2 onto Bootstrap 5, every Joomla 3-era programming call has been replaced with its modern Joomla 6 equivalent, the phone experience has been rebuilt from scratch, and a long list of faults — several of which had been quietly broken for years — has been fixed. The quickstart ships Joomla 6.1.2. Everything below ships in both the standalone package and the quickstart.

With thanks to Michael Mullan, whose Expression bug report led to a maintenance pass across our templates — several of its fixes are included here.

    Added

    • Joomla 6 native foundation — rebuilt on Bootstrap 5 with a compatibility layer that preserves the original Presence design while the underlying framework is fully modern. Presence no longer depends on Joomla's backwards-compatibility plugin, so it keeps working when that plugin is switched off. This matters more than it sounds: Joomla 6 refuses to install while that compatibility plugin is enabled, so a template that still relies on it blocks the upgrade rather than merely misbehaving after it.
    • A real mobile menu. The main menu now opens from a large, easy-to-tap button at the top right of the logo row, and shows your actual menu structure as an accordion with expanding sections. Previously the phone menu opened a flat list roughly 2,650 pixels tall in which every level of the menu was rendered as one long run of dash-prefixed entries.
    • A second menu row on phones — an evenly spaced utility row holding the secondary-menu button, account, register and search, all sized as proper touch targets.
    • Search on phones — opens as a full-width panel anchored beneath the header, with a large field and a visible Search button.
    • Font Awesome 6.5.2 with version-4 compatibility shims.
    • Modern social networks — X (with rebranding applied), Instagram, Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, Vimeo, Pinterest, Discord and RSS.
    • A favicon setting in the template options, so you can set your own site icon without editing files.
    • Package-based distribution — Presence now installs as a package and registers with Joomla's own Update Manager, so future releases appear under System → Update → Extensions.

    Changed

    • All 35 template settings switches converted to Joomla's native switch control, so the template settings screen matches the rest of Joomla 6.
    • Google Fonts now load through a direct stylesheet link with preconnect and display=swap, replacing the old JavaScript font loader — text appears sooner.
    • The login window is now a properly centred Bootstrap 5 dialog.
    • The Registration page no longer shows the four feature boxes above the form.
    • Retired dead social networks; footer copyright year rolled forward to the current year.
    • Quickstart ships a clean install — article view counts zeroed, Joomla's setup-nag messages cleared, leftover unused templates removed, and Joomla's usage-statistics prompt pre-answered as "never send", so a new site starts tidy rather than inheriting demo clutter.

    Fixed

    • Every social icon had a grey hexagon painted behind it. The stylesheet was still drawing an image sprite keyed to old network names (twitter, gplus, flickr) while the markup had moved to the new set, so no icon ever matched its cell and all of them fell back to the same wrong image tile. At every screen width, not just on phones.
    • The password show/hide button was an empty square on both login and registration. Joomla emits its own icon vocabulary, which a third-party template does not map onto Font Awesome. Presence now ships that map.
    • The Previous / Next / First / Last pagination buttons were completely blank on category lists, for the same reason — measured at zero pixels wide with no glyph at all.
    • The login window could not be used on a phone — the site header was set to sit above everything else on the page, so it covered the login dialog. Login fields were also far too small, and are now 46 pixels tall at 16-point text, which additionally stops iPhones zooming the page when you tap into a field.
    • The main menu could not be opened on a phone once the drawer did open — a dark overlay was painted on top of it, so nothing inside could be tapped.
    • Expanding a menu section did nothing. The submenu was being positioned off-screen by the desktop dropdown rules instead of opening in place.
    • The Search menu item led to a "Component not found" error page. It pointed at Joomla's old search component, which was removed from Joomla years ago; it now opens Smart Search.
    • Component-only pages (print view, pop-ups) were still running Joomla 2.5-era code — an XHTML doctype, a jQuery 1.8.1 loader, Bootstrap 2 with no bridge, and a link to a stylesheet that does not exist in this template.
    • A stylesheet that does not exist was linked on every page, producing a console error on every single page load. Because the server answers with an error page rather than a plain 404, it never showed up as a missing file.
    • 180 pixels of empty space at the top of pages without a slideshow, such as Registration.
    • The registration form's password rows ran much wider than every other field on the form.
    • The Search and Register buttons rendered as white text on a near-white background, effectively invisible.
    • Login form fields now declare autocomplete, so browsers and password managers fill them correctly.
    • Desktop menu items with submenus now show a dropdown arrow, and the dropdown no longer closes when you move the mouse toward it.
    • Featured and blog articles can no longer be clipped to their title in a single-column layout.
    • The site's search field and social icons are now properly centred on phones, and tab-module images fill the column width.

    Removed

    • Joomla's long-removed Search component and module, which were left over from an old migration. One orphaned file from it was fatal on Joomla 6: it brought down every page on the site the moment the backwards-compatibility plugin was switched off.
    • Internet Explorer conditional blocks and related workarounds.
    • Bootstrap 2 framework files.
    • Retired JavaScript libraries: superfish, supersubs, backstretch and the jQuery.browser shim.
    • An unregistered duplicate copy of the template that had been shipping inside the template folder, along with a stale build archive.

    Security

    • Output escaping applied throughout the template.
    • Direct-access guards confirmed on every template entry point.
    • Login form's "use secure connection" setting is now correctly type-cast before use.

    Known limitations

    • The slideshow still uses the camera.js library; migration to a modern slideshow is scheduled for a later release.
    • Tab-module images are 271 pixels wide at source, so filling the column on larger phones upscales them. The layout is correct; the supplied images are the limit.
