October 14, 2026
Version 5.4.10
Joomla 5.4.10. The Quickstart now installs Joomla 5.4.10 (Joomla 5.4.10 release notes), and the template version is now 5.4.10 to match.
Error pages. "Page not found" and "access denied" pages now show inside the template, with its header, menus and footer, and fit a phone screen.
Account pages. The password reset, login and username reminder forms show again when they have no menu item of their own (the home page layout was hiding them).
Phones. Article text, the top module band, the testimonials and the footer no longer touch the screen edge.
Quickstart. A fresh install no longer lists stale update notices.
October 2, 2026Version 5.4.9.1
Quickstart fix. The Quickstart no longer fails to install on MySQL hosts with a "prepared statement protocol" error. Thanks to Iryna for reporting this. The template itself is unchanged apart from its version number.
September 30, 2026Version 5.4.9
Joomla 5.4.9. The Quickstart now installs Joomla 5.4.9, a security and bug-fix release (Joomla 5.4.9 release notes), and the template version is now 5.4.9 to match. There are no visual changes. Installing the template update does not update Joomla itself; update Joomla from System → Update → Joomla.
Quickstart. Leftover VirtueMart shop tables and menu links are no longer installed. The "Register" button opens Joomla's registration page.
September 30, 2026Version 5.4.8.3
Fix. After the previous security update, print and email views, popup windows and the VirtueMart checkout step (pages served with
tmpl=component) could return an error page. The template'scomponent.phpnow defines the escaping helper it uses. There are no visual changes. Please update if you installed the previous version.September 28, 2026Version 5.4.8.2
Security update. Module, menu and tab titles are now escaped wherever the template writes them into your pages (module headings, title attributes and the mega menu), so a title containing a quote or markup can no longer break out of its place in the page. There are no visual changes. Recommended for all sites.
September 28, 2026Version 5.4.8.1
Security update. Every template setting that is written into your pages is now escaped for the place it lands in (HTML, attributes, CSS and JavaScript), so a setting value can no longer break out of its context. The error page now escapes its message and title too. There are no visual changes. Recommended for all sites.
September 14, 2026Version 5.4.8
Quadra 5.4.8 is the first release of this template under Cybersalt, and it is a large one. Quadra had been carried forward on its original code base for years, so this release brings the whole template up to current Joomla 5 standards in a single step: the old Bootstrap 2 framework replaced, removed Joomla 3 code paths rewritten, Internet Explorer leftovers stripped out, the icon set modernised, the mobile experience rebuilt, and the administrator Options screen cleaned up and made usable. Everything below was verified by driving the real pages in a browser at desktop, tablet and phone widths, not by reading the files.
Please note: version 5.4.8 targets Joomla 5. Joomla 6 support is being prepared as a follow-up release. See Known limitations at the end of these notes.
Joomla 5 compatibility
- Error pages work again. The template's error page still used Joomla 3 code that Joomla removed years ago. It only kept working while the old Behaviour - Backward Compatibility plugin was switched on, and it does not work at all in Joomla 6. When that page fails, Joomla cannot draw any error page, so every "page not found" was being delivered to your visitors and to Google as a server error (500) instead of a proper 404, and the real reason was never shown. The page has been rewritten against the current Joomla interfaces and a deliberate missing-page request now returns a correct, styled 404.
- The rest of the template was audited to the same standard. The error page was only the highest-impact file. The main layout, the component-only layout and all of the template's Joomla output overrides were swept for the same removed Joomla 3 shortcuts, including the older ways of reading the application, the document, the URL, plugins, modules and the configuration registry. The final scan finds zero legacy Joomla calls anywhere in the template.
- Checked on a current Joomla. The template is running on Joomla 5.4.8, and every bundled extension in the quickstart was brought up to date at build time, including Akeeba Backup Core 10.4.0.
- PHP 8 safety. The layout no longer assumes variables exist before it uses them, which is what produced warnings and, in some hosting configurations, blank sections on PHP 8.
Bootstrap 5 migration and page layout
- Moved from Bootstrap 2 to Bootstrap 5. Quadra was built on Bootstrap 2, which Joomla stopped shipping several major versions ago. The template now loads Bootstrap 5 together with a compatibility layer that keeps Quadra's original grid class names working, so your existing module positions, content and any custom HTML you have written keep their layout instead of collapsing into a single column. Both stylesheets were confirmed loading in the browser, not just present on disk.
- Pop-up windows open and close properly. Everything that opened in a pop-up still used the Bootstrap 2 trigger attributes, which Bootstrap 5 ignores, so those windows either did nothing or opened invisible. They were converted to the current attributes and given a centred dialog and a standard close button. Verified by opening the login pop-up: it now appears fully opaque with its backdrop and all seven fields visible, and closes cleanly without leaving the page stuck.
- Full-width rows really are full width. Sections that are meant to run edge to edge, including the footer and the payment strip, were sitting 30 pixels narrower than the page because a leftover grid margin was being reapplied from an outer row. Those sections now measure a zero gap on both sides at every tested width.
- Internet Explorer leftovers removed. The conditional comments and browser-specific shims that existed purely to prop up old versions of Internet Explorer have been taken out, along with a body of dead stylesheet rules that nothing had used for years. Less to download, and nothing left behind to conflict with modern browsers.
- Duplicate stylesheet removed. The main template stylesheet was being loaded twice, once through Joomla and once as a raw link further down the page. The earlier copy was removed so the browser downloads it once. The version that actually wins, and therefore your site's appearance, is unchanged.
JavaScript and jQuery
- Old jQuery plug-ins removed. The menu, background and select-box plug-ins Quadra shipped with (superfish, supersubs, backstretch, dropkick) along with the long-removed jQuery browser-detection call were taken out and their call sites cleaned up. These had been broken or silently failing since jQuery 3 dropped the features they relied on.
- The remaining scripts were made jQuery 3 safe. A small compatibility shim restores the handful of jQuery shorthands the template's remaining scripts still used. One visible result: the parallax building image in the "What else we can do for you" section now actually animates. On the original demo the parallax script threw an error and the effect never started at all.
- Zero JavaScript errors on the front end. The browser console is clean on the home page. For comparison, the original Quadra demo reports three errors on the same page.
- Google Fonts load directly. Fonts were being fetched by a JavaScript loader that ran after the page had already started drawing, which caused a flash of the wrong typeface. They are now requested straight from the page head. This was finished in the component-only layout and the error page as well, where the old loader was still live and still shipping.
Icons and social links
- Font Awesome 4 upgraded to Font Awesome 6. Quadra shipped Font Awesome 4.6.3, which is long out of support and missing most current brand marks. It now loads Font Awesome 6.5.2 with the version 4 compatibility shims, so any icon class you have used in your own content keeps working. Seven remaining old-style icon markers in the layout were converted by hand, including the search and back-to-top icons, and 50 icons were confirmed rendering in the current font rather than falling back to a blank box.
- Social network set brought up to date. The old fixed sprite set has been replaced with a modern thirteen-network set: X, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, Vimeo, Pinterest, Discord and RSS. The demo data now switches on a social bar above the footer across all three template styles, so you can see the control and edit it rather than having to discover that it exists.
- Joomla's own icons show up. Joomla 4 and later emit their own icon class names for things like pagination and the password show/hide control, and Quadra's original icon stylesheet had no mapping for them. The First, Previous, Next and Last pagination buttons and the password reveal eye were rendering as blank or as empty squares. All of them are now mapped to Font Awesome 6 glyphs and inherit the button's own colour rather than being hard-coded white.
Mobile experience
- Mobile navigation rebuilt. The menu button now sits below the header where it is reachable with a thumb, and it is a full 44 by 44 pixel tap target. Opening it slides out a full-width drawer. Submenus expand as an accordion that keeps only one branch open at a time, so a deep menu no longer pushes the rest of the list off the bottom of the screen. Every link in the menu was checked as reachable; none are stranded off screen.
- A utility row of five controls (search and the other header controls) now sits in its own strip on phones, evenly spread across the width instead of overlapping or falling off the edge.
- The page cannot be dragged sideways. Confirmed at 375 pixels wide: there is no horizontal overflow, which is what used to let a phone visitor swipe the whole layout off centre and see a strip of blank page.
- Content sits edge to edge on phones again. A 20 pixel margin had crept in around the page body on small screens, which is not how Quadra is designed. Content now starts at the very edge of the screen, matching the original design.
- Form fields no longer make iPhones zoom. Text inputs on phones were sized at 15 pixels. iOS Safari zooms the page in whenever you tap a field smaller than 16 pixels, and it does not zoom back out when you tap away, which left visitors stranded on a page wider than their screen right in the middle of a login or a contact form. Fields on phones are now at least 16 pixels with a comfortable minimum height.
Slideshow and hero area
- Slideshow captions are visible on phones again. On mobile the hero slides were showing their images with no wording at all. The cause was subtle: once the parallax script was repaired it started applying its offset to the hero as well, lifting it roughly 75 pixels and sliding the caption up underneath the fixed header and the utility row. Parallax is now switched off below 768 pixels, and any offset it had already written is cleared. Desktop parallax is untouched and still works.
- Caption text no longer collides with itself on phones. Both the headline and the body copy were pinned to the same starting point, so a headline that wrapped to two lines ran straight over the paragraph beneath it. On small screens the headline is now anchored from its bottom edge and the body copy from its top, which means a longer headline grows upward into empty space instead of into the text below. Checked on all three slides: a consistent 10 pixel gap and no overlap on any of them. Desktop layout is unchanged.
- Slide images fill their frame correctly at every tested width, with the crop verified rather than assumed.
Desktop navigation
- Drop-down menus no longer close before you can reach them. On desktop, moving the mouse from a menu heading down to its drop-down crossed a gap where neither was hovered, so the menu closed on the way down and you had to try again. The whole path is now hoverable. The menu's spacing and appearance are deliberately unchanged, because the gap is part of Quadra's design. Verified by walking the pointer down through the gap in small steps and confirming the drop-down stays open.
Appearance and accessibility
- The header is visible again. On some pages the header was drawing as a blank white band with the logo, the menu and the icons all invisible. A rule intended to style the header only once you scroll was matching it all the time. The header is now transparent at rest and matches the original design.
- Mobile chrome now uses Quadra's own colours. The mobile menu controls were inheriting a generic crimson from the shared component set because Quadra had never declared its own accent colour. They now use Quadra's dark navy with its yellow ink, a contrast ratio of 11.6 to 1, comfortably past the accessibility standard.
- Submenu expand buttons are readable. The small plus chips beside expandable menu items were rendering at a contrast ratio of 1.00, meaning literally invisible, because they were drawing light-on-light against a yellow button rather than against the dark drawer. They now use dark ink on the yellow, at 11.6 to 1.
- The drawer's close button is clearly visible. The X for closing the mobile menu was reading as grey against the dark drawer because both its outline and its colour were being chosen at run time by sampling whatever was behind it. Its colour is now stated outright on the element so nothing can override it, giving a 10.4 to 1 contrast ratio.
- Featured article view no longer clips. In a single-column featured layout, tall intro articles were being cut off at their title. Fixed so the full intro shows.
Security
- Template options are escaped before they reach the page. Values you type into the template's Options screen were being written into the page markup as-is. A helper now escapes every one of those output points, so a stray quote or angle bracket in a setting cannot break the page or be used to inject markup.
- Colour and size settings are validated. Colour values are checked as real hex colours and dimension values as real CSS lengths before they are written into a style block. HTML escaping alone does not protect a stylesheet, because a value like
red;}body{background:url(//somewhere)passes straight through it. These are now rejected at the source. - Template overrides reviewed. The template's Joomla output overrides were security reviewed and reconciled against current Joomla core files, with orphaned overrides of files Joomla no longer ships cleared out. Your Joomla override check should report a clean template after installing.
Administrator and template options
- The Options screen no longer shows raw setting codes. Several favicon settings were displaying their internal placeholder names instead of readable labels, and two tabs were named with a redundant trailing "Settings". The cause turned out to be an old, shorter language file sitting in the site root and shadowing the template's own correct one. Both files are now in sync and every label reads properly.
- Favicon suite with a built-in crop tool. The favicon settings tab is live and includes a crop tool, so you can upload one image and produce the icon sizes browsers and devices ask for without leaving Joomla.
- 22 colour settings are now real colour pickers. They previously rendered as plain text boxes, meaning you had to know and type a hex code. They are now proper swatch pickers. 16 image settings use Joomla's media picker.
- 61 on/off settings converted to Joomla's native switches. Quadra's old Bootstrap 2 checkbox toggles were faked with a script, and they looked and behaved differently from the rest of Joomla. They are now standard Joomla 5 switch fields.
- Administrator console error removed. A leftover script was throwing "jQuery is not defined" on every administrator page. It existed only to fake those old checkbox toggles, which no longer exist, so the script was unhooked and retired. The administrator console now reports zero errors where it previously reported one on every page load.
Housekeeping in the quickstart package
- Article hit counters reset to zero. The demo content had accumulated more than 47,000 page views from years of public browsing. A fresh install now starts from zero rather than telling your first visitor that your brand new article has been read thousands of times.
- Administrator action log cleared of years of demo activity, so your own site's audit trail starts clean. Extension and configuration history entries were deliberately kept.
- Dead menu items and modules removed. A fleet-wide audit found published menu items and modules pointing at components that are not installed. These appeared in the navigation and returned a 404 when clicked. K2 was removed outright, including thousands of leftover language override rows that a simple menu and module scan misses entirely. Anything pointing at a component you might legitimately install later was unpublished rather than deleted, so it is recoverable.
- A demo module locked since 2022 released. A custom module had been left checked out by a since-departed demo user and could not be edited. The lock was cleared.
- Old login sessions cleared so the package does not ship with stale session records.
Version numbering
- Version is now consistent everywhere. Quadra previously carried a legacy date-and-Joomla-version string that did not match the number shown in the administrator, so it was impossible to tell which build you had. The installation manifest, the version shown on the template's Options screen, the version comment in the layout file and the package manifest are all now in agreement at 5.4.8, and this changelog matches them.
- The lineage was kept, not reset. Quadra's displayed version had been in the 5.1.1 line, so the numbering continues from there rather than starting over. The first three digits track the Joomla release the template is built and tested against; a fourth digit is used for our own point fixes between Joomla releases.
Known limitations
- Joomla 6 is not yet supported by this release. Quadra 5.4.8 is built and verified against Joomla 5.4.8. The Joomla 6 conversion is a separate piece of work and will ship as its own release. Please do not install 5.4.8 on a Joomla 6 site.
- The slideshow still uses the original Camera script and jQuery. Both have been made safe on current jQuery and both work correctly, but the slideshow has not yet been rebuilt on a modern library. That migration is planned for a future release and will not change how the slideshow is configured.
- At mobile width the hero headline can overlap its body copy on longer headlines. This is present on the original Quadra demo too and is not something this release introduced. It is on the list to be addressed.
With thanks to Michael Mullan, whose Expression bug report led to this maintenance pass across our templates.
